If you’re shopping for a hybrid car, then fuel efficiency is most likely the top priority on your list. And if you’re shopping for a hybrid crossover, then you’re probably also concerned with its capability and cargo capacity as well. Fortunately, the 2021 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid is able to seat five comfortably while hauling all of their stuff and getting superior mileage in the process. But just how far can a RAV4 Hybrid go?

How many miles can the Toyota RAV4 last?

The Toyota RAV4 Hybrid has been in the market since 2016 and since then, plenty of owners have logged hundreds of thousands of miles on them. That site also estimates an average annual repair cost of $429, which is much lower than other vehicles in its class. So you know that the RAV4 Hybrid is reliable and cheap to repair, but how many miles can it go on a single tank?

The Toyota RAV4 Hybrid can go far on a single tank of gas

While reliability is a strong point, the RAV4 Hybrid’s fuel efficiency is its main highlight. Under its hood is a 2.5-liter, four-cylinder engine that’s mated to an electric motor and paired to a CVT. Altogether, that powertrain setup is able to return an EPA-estimated 41 mpg in the city, 38 mpg on the highway, and an even 40 mpg during combined driving situations. In our real-world testing, we were able to achieve an average of 38 mpg in combined driving and at a high altitude, so those estimates are pretty accurate.

According to Toyota’s website, the RAV4 Hybrid has a fuel tank capacity of 14.5 gallons, which means that if you were doing only city driving, then you be able to get 594.5 miles out of a single tank, according to mileage estimates. However, if you were mainly driving on the highway, then you can conceivably achieve up to 551 miles on one tank, and given its combined fuel economy estimate, you should get around 580 miles on one tank on average.

Those are some pretty impressive fuel efficiency numbers for a compact crossover that can do double duty as a ski rig, considering its all-wheel-drive as well. While it’s not perfect, it is safe to say that the Toyota RAV4 Hybrid is definitely worth putting on your shortlist if you’re in the market for a new compact crossover hybrid.

And if you rather pay less for a used model, then you can currently find 2016 and newer models selling for anywhere between $15,000 to $30,000 depending on the vehicle’s trim level, condition, and location.
