For many of us, buying a new pony car is out of the question. Even if you can afford the asking price, which is rarely low, the taxes and insurance rates quickly turn many buyers away. Buying a used pony car is another story, however.

Take the 2014 Ford Mustang GT, for example. It’s fast, has those classic mustang looks that have drawn consumers in for years now, and many have low enough mileage to make it more than worth the asking price.

The 2014 Ford Mustang GT is a major bargain

The new 2023 Ford Mustang is selling from $29,145 for the EcoBoost Fastback to $57,945 for the Mach 1 Fastback. That’s a lot of money for a car in an economy where the price of eggs is out of control.

Still, not having a car is simply not an option for many people, which is where the 2014 Ford Mustang GT comes in. The convertible model was $47,515 back when it was new, so the price is much lower now.

According to Autoblog, current 2014 Ford Mustang GT models for sale cost anywhere from $14,000 to $20,000. This depends on the condition, how many previous owners, and the state where it’s up for sale. For this price, the 2014 Mustang GT is a real bargain that is hard to find in the current market.

The 2014 Ford Mustang GT isn’t lacking on specs

If you’re looking for speed and power, then look no further than the 2014 Ford Mustang GT. The engine is a 5.0-liter V-8, which generates 420 hp and 390 lb-ft of torque.

Ford paired this with a standard 6-speed manual transmission. You may be able to find higher trim models with an automatic transmission if you hate driving a stick shift.

The fuel mileage isn’t all that stellar. It gets an estimated 15 city, 26 hwy, and 19 combined.

As for the speed, this is where the 2014 Mustang GT really shines, according to MotorTrend. It goes from zero to 60 mph in 5 seconds flat. Considering there are some models which can go much faster than this currently, this may not sound extremely fast. On the other hand, it will be many years before the prices are this low, however.

What else can the 2014 Ford Mustang GT do?

If you’re considering buying a 2014 Ford Mustang GT, it’s important to keep in mind that it’s almost a decade old, and therefore doesn’t have all the cool tech features so many newer models sport like touchscreens, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto. With that being said, this shouldn’t be an issue for most drivers.

It includes a single CD player, audio input jack, MP3 player steering wheel controls, eight performance speakers, a shaker sound system, Sirius Satellite Radio, Bluetooth, 2 12V DC power outlets, and a USB port.

There isn’t a ton of safety tech. It includes AdvanceTrac Electronic Stability Control (ESC), and ABS And Driveline Traction Control.

What will please many parents of teenagers just learning to drive is the ability to format what it can and can’t do, thanks in large part to the Mykey system. This allows you to have control over features such as how fast your inexperienced driver can go, how loud they crank the music and reminders that it’s time to stop and fuel up.

The crash test results were mostly high. Results range from a four out of five for most categories, with a few five out of five ratings. The combined side rating rear seat and side barrier rating passenger rear seat both scored a three out of five.

For those who can’t afford the new 2023 Ford Mustang, then the 2014 model is an impressive vehicle to go with.
