Most reviewers are pleased with the exterior and interior stylings of the newly announced 2021 Chevrolet Tahoe. Changes for this model include a new diesel engine option, a ten-speed automatic on all trims, and an independent rear suspension. The new Tahoe will now provide more interior space, new technologies and features, and great driving dynamics. Here’s a look what the exterior and interior will be like.

While built on the same platform as the Silverado, the new 2021 Tahoe has its own unique appearance. Cars.com calls the Tahoe’s front-end styling “a softer, kinder, less aggressive take on the polarizing look of the 2019 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck.” It’s good that alterations have been made, since CNET called the 2020 Silverado “910 pound-feet of ugly.” GM Authority noted the Tahoe features a “floating roof” look with certain blacked out pillars to make the roof look unsupported. The 2021 Tahoe has a longer wheelbase plus an extra 6.7 inches in total length.

There are now six trim levels, rather than three, with slightly different appearances. The lowest trims, the LS and LT, have 18-inch aluminum-alloy wheels and nine colors to pick from. The RST trim, formerly a special edition, is “street-inspired” and features blacked-out trim and 22-inch wheels. The Z71, previously a package, is designed for off-road driving, with 20-inch wheels and all-terrain tires and a different front bumper. The Premier trim has extra infotainment features, extra chrome, a dual exhaust, plus 20-inch wheels. The High Country trim has a bronze-accented grille, 22-inch wheels, and features lots of brown leather.

The Tahoe’s interior is new and different from the Silverado’s. Although the platform and many components are shared, the bodies are different between the Silverado and Tahoe. Only the windshield is the same in both. This is good news since the Silverado’s interior is not well-loved.

The Tahoe’s interior is higher quality than Silverado’s. Motor Trend says the materials are better than in the Chevrolet trucks and expects the new Tahoe to be a “slam dunk.” Along with quality improvements, the transmission controls are now dashboard-mounted buttons and the infotainment system is new. Otherwise, the layout is similar to last year.

Reviewers point out the new Tahoe’s high-quality finishes, extra room, and new tech. The Tahoe’s interior, says The Drive, “ditches the old, boxy style reproduced by Chevrolet for decades, and gets with the times in terms of design and ergonomics.” Motor1.com describes the Tahoe’s interior as “a nice place to be.” Edmunds calls the new design “a huge leap forward for the interior quality.”

The cabin now has tons of space, made possible by the change to the rear suspension. Chevrolet points to a 66% increase in cargo space behind the third row and a 30% increase in overall cargo space. The third row also has 10.1 inches more legroom. The second row of seats can be slid forward or backwards up to ten inches. The roomier third row and cargo area help address criticisms from past years.

There’s plenty of new technology. The 2021 Tahoe will come standard with a 10-inch color touchscreen. A 4.2-inch driver information center comes standard on the LS, LT, RST, and Z71 trims. This can be upgraded to an eight-inch instrument cluster, which comes standard on Premiere and High Country trims. A 15-inch Head-Up Display is standard on High Country and available on the Premiere trim. In addition, two 12.6-inch LCD touchscreen displays can be added to the rear seats, where they can be seen by passengers in both the second and third rows.

Overall, Edmunds says the 2021 Chevrolet Tahoe is “more capable” and “more modern.” The fifth-generation Tahoe is expected to be available in North America in mid-2020, but so far reviewers are responding positively to the Tahoe’s new exterior and interior look.
