In the world of electric SUVs, Tesla has long dominated in terms of being fast. But now, Kia is pushing its EV6 to be a performance SUV. In the spirit of not burying the important information here, the 2023 Kia EV6 GT makes 576 horsepower and 545 pound-foot of torque. And yes, that makes this EV one of the fastest Kia models ever put into production.

How fast is the 2023 Kia EV6 GT?

The Kia EV6 GT has a 0 to 60 mph time of 3.4 seconds and a top speed of 161 mph. Those numbers mean this electric SUV has some serious power. When compared to the regular EV6, the power bump is 256 hp and 99 lb-ft of torque. So, it will be interesting to see how the platform handles its new-found speed.

Of course, power is not the only thing different about the GT model. You will be able to tell what you are looking at from the massive green brake calipers and more aggressive looks. The interior also gets some upgrades, including heavily bolstered seats to help keep you in place.

The EV6 GT is not cheap

In terms of cost, the 2023 Kia EV6 GT is not cheap. It has a starting cost of over $60,000, which is significantly more than the base trim. But, for that cost, it does offer legitimate performance. And to some, that might be worth the price increase.

While the EV6 GT electric SUV does deliver on power and various upgrades, it does fall short in range. With this model, you will get about 210 miles of range. And that is not the maximum range that this EV offers. If you are looking for an electric range of over 300 miles, you will want to look elsewhere.

Is the 2023 Kia EV6 GT available?

In terms of availability, the GT Kia EV6 should be arriving at dealerships in the near future. But, it will probably be available in limited numbers. Supply chain issues are still impacting the automotive industry, and that is especially true with EVs. Plus, if demand is high, it might be hard to track one down.

Kia is quick to state that this electric SUV is faster than both a Ferrari and Lamborghini. Just don’t expect the same prestige or driving experience that those have to offer. At the same time, there is something to enjoy about an EV that has speed on its side.

Is the Kia EV6 worth it?

According to Jalopnik, the EV6 GT is an exciting ride, but it might not justify its price point. It does not have an adequate electric range, and you will be making some sacrifices to ride comfort.

Another issue is that the chassis isn’t necessarily good enough to handle the amount of power that Kia has given it. At the end of the day, this is meant to be a practical SUV for those who want to get the benefits of electric. Because of that, it was not really designed to handle north of 550 hp.
