How Many Different Models Does Rivian Have?
The first company to produce a fully electric pickup truck, tech startup Rivian is undoubtedly a leader in the EV space. However, Rivian only offers two models in its current lineup, or three if you want to count its delivery van. The two primary Rivian models are the Rivian R1T and the Rivian R1S. Here’s a look at how the 2023 Rivian models stack up.
A look at the 2023 Rivian R1T
The R1T is Rivian’s electric pickup truck model that was named to Car and Driver’s 10 Best Trucks and SUVs list for 2023. While not considered a one-ton truck, the R1T isn’t considered a midsize pickup truck either. Instead, the Rivian R1T falls somewhere in between a Ford Ranger and a Ford F-150.
According to Car and Driver, Rivian offers the 2023 R1T in three various trim options, including Adventure, Adventure All-Terrain, and Launch Edition. Rivian starts the baseline Adventure trim at $73,000. This price point features the standard battery pack with a 270-mile range and the dual-motor AWD drive system that produces 533 hp and can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 4.5 seconds.
Rivian also gives consumers the opportunity to upgrade to larger battery packs and more powerful drive systems, even on the baseline Adventure trim. Consumers can upgrade their drive system with the performance dual-motor AWD for $5,000 or the quad-motor AWD for $8,000. The former produces 665 hp and can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 3.5 seconds, while the latter produces 835 hp and can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in just 3 seconds flat.
In addition, consumers can upgrade to the large pack battery for an extra $6K or the max pack battery for an extra $16K. The large pack battery increases the range to 350 miles, and the max pack battery increases the range to 400 miles.
Here’s how the 2023 Rivian R1S stacks up
The second model option in the 2023 Rivian lineup is the R1S, an electric SUV. According to Car and Driver, the 2023 Rivian R1S is bold, big, and powerful, with three rows of seats, an upscale interior, and a high-performing all-electric powertrain. Like with the R1T model, Rivian offers the R1S SUV in three different trim levels, including Adventure, Adventure All-Terrain, and Launch Edition.
The baseline R1S is more expensive than the baseline R1T, with a starting price of $78,000. This starting price point on this baseline Adventure trim features a dual-motor AWD drive system that produces 533 hp and a standard battery pack with a 260 mi range. Consumers can upgrade both the battery pack and the drive system.
Upgrading to a large-pack battery for $6,000 will increase the range to 340 miles. In addition, consumers can upgrade to the performance dual-motor AWD for $5K to increase the horsepower to 655 ponies or the quad-motor AWD for $8K to increase the power to an impressive 835 hp.
Are more models on the way to the Rivian lineup?
While Rivian exclusively makes electric delivery vans for Amazon, the company only offers the general public access to two different model options. This has left many wondering when or if the tech company will offer additional model options. Well, according to some sources, Rivian does have a new SUV model in the works for 2026.
The Rivian R2S will be smaller than the R1S. Its smaller stature will help to make the new SUV model more affordable for the masses, with an estimated starting MSRP of around $40,000. While still not super cheap, the 2026 R2S looks like it will be considerably more affordable than the baseline Rivian R1S with a $78K starting price.
