Ferrari is synonymous with premium sports cars, stunning supercars, and groundbreaking hypercars. The Ferrari SF90 continues that legacy while proving the Prancing Horse also knows how to change with the times. 

Reviews of the Ferrari SF90 concur: It’s a beast. But cars this exceptional aren’t mass-produced. The Italian automaker commonly limits model production. So how many SF90 examples will be built?

The Ferrari SF90 at a glance

This supercar is unique because it’s Ferrari’s first production plug-in hybrid. But whether it’s a Stradale coupe or Spider convertible, the SF90 still delivers what Car and Driver calls “insane performance.”

It also boasts innovative design features, including EV-only mode, which allows the SF90 to travel up to 17 miles at 80 mph using only the front-mounted motors. In fact, it’s the first front-wheel-drive model Ferrari has ever produced.

You might not presume a PHEV would deliver supercar power, but the Ferrari SF90 screams on pavement, hitting 0 to 60 mph in a face-blistering two seconds. The twin-turbocharged V8 engine alone produces 769 hp and 590 lb-ft of torque. But the 7.9-kWh lithium-ion battery and three electric motors push the total to 986 hp.

The Ferrari SF90 doesn’t cut corners on luxury either. Fine leather, quality finishes, and plenty of bells and whistles adorn the customizable interior. This ultra-luxe cabin, along with mind-blowing performance and handling, makes the roughly $600,000 price seem reasonable.

But is the SF90 as exclusive as, say, the iconic LaFerrari?

Is the Ferrari SF90 limited production?

Ferrari limits the production of some of its road models, such as the LaFerrari, of which only 499 examples exist. But the automaker hasn’t announced the number of SF90 units that will roll off the line. However, unlike the LaFerrari, the SF90 isn’t slotted for select buyers only. It’s a series production vehicle intended for everyday use.

So, although Ferrari hasn’t revealed how many examples it will produce, you can own an SF90 if you have the cash and the patience to wait up to a year or more for the Maranello factory to build it.

Ferrari enjoyed brisk sales in 2021

Despite the craziness of the automotive market since the pandemic began, Ferrari recorded record earnings for 2021.

The company delivered an astounding 2,750 cars in the third quarter alone, Autocar reports. That’s up almost 19% from 2020 and 11.2% from 2019. Year-to-date, the Italian automaker delivered 8,206, helping drive a 30% growth rate and 79% net profit hike.

So the pandemic hasn’t pumped the brakes on these highly desirable models. And the Ferrari SF90 only adds to the brand’s selection of supercars. It boasts all the Ferrari features enthusiasts expect, including impressive power with an electrifying twist. And although the company hasn’t announced whether it will cap the number of examples, only a small number of consumers can afford a half-million-dollar car.
