In most automotive circles, it’s almost common knowledge that some of the longest-lasting vehicles on the road today are Subaru models. The automaker maintains its reputation for dependable engineering and top-quality materials that stand the test of time. And those consumers who continue to drive Subaru models swear by them and their longevity.

But before you join the ranks of Subaru enthusiasts, you might be wondering if all Subaru models hold up the same over time. More specifically, you may just be wondering how many miles you can expect a Subaru Crosstrek to last. Is the Subaru Crosstrek just as reliable and long-lasting on the road as others in the Subaru family?

Subaru’s reputation for lasting forever bodes well for the Crosstrek

According to Subaru, nearly 97% of the models sold over the last 10 years are still on the roadways today. As recently as 2016 and 2017, Subaru had three vehicles on the Longest Lasting Vehicles Over 200,000 Miles list, according to Torque News. Some of the top models with staying power include the rugged Outback, the Forester, and the Legacy.

Subaru stories from beyond the 100,000-mile mark

All Wheel Drive Auto suggests that while results may vary, a Subaru can be expected to last well-beyond 100,000 miles and is quite capable of reaching 300,000 miles. The various consumer-created, Subaru high-mile clubs out there demonstrate just how far these rides can last when properly maintained.

Some Subaru owners are sharing odometer pictures with mileage surpassing 400,000 and even 500,000 miles. The club has even created a niche group called “To the Moon and Back,” where Subaru owners can share their over 500,000-mile stories.

Among some of those listed include the Subaru Legacy and the Subaru Forester. But what about the Subaru Crosstrek? Is it one of these longest-lasting models, or does it fall short of its larger siblings?

The Subaru Crosstrek’s track record

The Subaru Crosstrek first became available in 2013 and has since continued to be a popular model, even with its mixed reviews over the years. Consumer Reports weighs in with historic ownership history, and the initial data looks promising.

The Crosstrek delivers great fuel economy and offers a competent and comfortable ride, year after year. Earning an 84 out of a possible 100 overall and a four out of five in predicted reliability, the 2021 Subaru Crosstrek seems to be maintaining its reputation for long life on the road. The 2018 and 2019 model Crosstrek each earns five out of five in predicted reliability, as well.

Vehicle life expectancy really boils down to this

Sure, vehicle design and quality materials will play a significant role in how long a vehicle can last. But most of the automotive sources will tell you it boils down to a few key factors at the ownership level.

How you drive your Subaru will play a part in how long it continues to drive. Sure, they’re typically designed to venture off-pavement. But overworking the engine or being too aggressive with the gas and brake pedals can be hard on any vehicle.

The regular maintenance of a car also can add thousands of available miles to the odometer. The life expectancy of the Subaru Crosstrek or any other model will be cut short if you avoid routine oil changes, tire rotations, and service appointments.

The Subaru Crosstrek may be missing from some of the high-mile club lists, but there’s no indication it won’t eventually get there. In the end, the life expectancy will depend on your dedication to regular maintenance and driving habits.

Don’t be too hard on your Crosstrek, and keep those service appointments when they’re due. You might just join the thousands of other Subaru owners venturing beyond the 200,000-mile mark.
