While a vehicle surpassing 200,000-miles is undoubtedly impressive, it’s much less impressive if that particular car is breaking down frequently. Unfortunately for Jeep, reliability isn’t really its strong suit.

In fact, according to Repair Pal, Jeep earned a 3.5 out of 5.0 overall reliability rating. Repair Pal added that the average annual repair cost for a Jeep model is around $634. Unfortunately, Repair Pal reports that means most Jeep models have above-average ownership costs. Repair Pal also explained that there’s a 13% probability of a repair being severe when it comes to Jeep repairs. 

Consumer Reports says reliability is a struggle for Jeep

Repair Pal isn’t the only organization doling out reliability ratings. In fact, according to Consumer Reports, there are plenty of Jeep models that have earned less than impressive reliability ratings. Take, for instance, the 2021 Jeep Renegade, which Consumer Reports gave a one out of five predicted reliability rating. The 2021 Jeep Cherokee and this year’s new Compass also earned some rather disappointing reliability ratings. 

All in all, according to Consumer Reports, the only Jeep model that was able to secure a perfect reliability rating is the 2021 Jeep Gladiator. Unlike other models among this year’s new Jeep lineup, the Gladiator also earned a five out of five predicted owner satisfaction rating, which is pretty promising.

How many miles can a Jeep last?

Now, the question is, how many miles will a Jeep last? Unfortunately, according to iSee Cars, Jeep may not have the longest-lasting SUVs out there. In fact, after analyzing more than 15.8 million cars sold in 2019 to determine which brands have the most vehicles that are likely to reach 200,000-miles, only 0.6% of Jeep models sold in 2019 surpassed the 200,000-mile mark. As for the average for all brands combined? iSee Cars reports that 1.0% of all models sold in 2019 reached 200,000-miles and beyond.

At this point, you’re probably wondering what the longest-lasting car brands are. Fortunately for Toyota, it was able to snag the top spot with 1.8% models sold in 2019 having reached 200,000-miles. Following closely behind Toyota is Honda, with 1.6% of models sold in 2019 having reached 200,000-miles. 

The key to keeping your car on the road for miles to come

Here’s the thing, while brands like Toyota and Honda may offer longer-lasting vehicles than Jeep does, that’s not to say that if you buy a Jeep, it won’t reach that 200,000-mile milestone. According to Consumer Reports, if that’s what you’re after, you really need to keep up on your vehicle’s maintenance needs. Everything from oil changes to keeping your car’s fluids in check are going to be key to keeping your car on the road for miles to come.
