This legendary engine was essential for rally race wins and is famous for its distinguishable growl. Drivers have reported that the boxer four-cylinder can last up to 250,000 miles with proper care. On the other hand, pushing your WRX past its limits could wear out the engine at only 60,000 miles.

The Subaru WRX doesn’t have the best reputation

U.S. News gave the 2020 Subaru WRX an average reliability rating of 77 out of 100. That score isn’t bad by segment standards, but it’s slightly behind what you’d expect from a Subaru. If you want something more affordable, the Subaru Impreza is also a good option. Although its reliability rating is a little below the Legacy’s, the Impreza still garners plenty of praise from CR. Sure, it has the weakest engine of the three models, but its surprisingly sporty handling emulates the WRX’s character.
