The luxury SUV category is full of great choices, but if you’re looking for something that’s just reliable as it is capable, then the Acura MDX is a safe bet. The MDX is under the same family umbrella as the Honda Pilot, but it provides buyers with a more upscale feel. And since Acuras (and Hondas) are known for their unwavering reliability, just how many miles could you expect an Acura MDX to last?

The Acura MDX can last a really long time

While we can expect that a new Acura MDX will last for a really long time, it’s the older ones that need a closer look. In case you’re not aware, the older MDX models – mainly from 2003 to 2007 – were prone to automatic transmission failures that would cause the SUV to shudder and slip gears while driving. You can see many owner complaints filed about this on Car Complaints, however, that doesn’t mean that you need to shy away from an older MDX altogether.

The 2013 Acura MDX model topped the list for the “Best Used Vehicle Under $20,000,” according to iSeeCars, besting the Toyota Highlander and even the Honda CR-V. Also, Repair Pal gave the Acura MDX 4 out of 5 when it comes to reliability, with the average annual repair cost coming in at only $571 per year. But that’s not all, there are many owners reporting that their MDXs have lasted well over the 200,000-mile mark, some of them even going for over 400,000 miles. But a real hero story is the one about a 2001 Acura MDX that was used as a taxi and ended up turning the odometer to the tune of over 900,000 miles!

The 2020 Acura MDX offers a lot for the money

If you’re in the market for a newer model, then you can still get your hands on a 2020 Acura MDX. The current-generation model comes with elegant styling inside and out, a potent V6 engine, and seating room for up to seven people. On the plus side, if you have a family full of audiophiles, then they will like the available 10-speaker ELS premium sound system, which pairs well with the available wide-screen rear-seat entertainment system with HDMI ports.

Additionally, your family will be safe thanks to Acura’s suite of driver-assist features and they are sure to find a lot of comfort in the car’s full leather seats and optional second-row captain’s chairs. And if you need to get to some of the roads unknown, then you’ll enjoy the off-road capability of the MDX’s Super Handling All-Wheel-Drive system.

The 2022 Acura MDX has even more to offer

But if you really want the newest of the new MDXs, then you’ll be happy to know that Acura’s three-row SUV was completely redesigned for the 2022 model year. It’s now bigger on the inside with more storage space behind the second and third rows and it even has a little more space for third-row occupants. What we like the most is that Acura even installed its True Touch infotainment system, which is easier to use and easier to see thanks to a large 12.3-inch display.

Tech features and space aside, you should have no issues buying a new Acura MDX and having it run for a long time. If anything, it will probably last 400,000 miles or more. Maybe even over one million miles, which will beat that aforementioned 2001 model.
