BMW’s X1 is the brand’s best-selling SUV. BMW redesigned the X1 for 2023 and the new, third generation, of the X1 is longer, wider, and more powerful. The BMW xDrive28i now has a 2.0-liter TwinPower four-cylinder that makes 241 horsepower, and it’s mated to a new quick-shifting seven-speed dual clutch transmission that makes the most of the power. The 2023 version is easy to spot in the wild, thanks to its huge new version of the BWM grille that dominates the front end.

The BMW X2 is the hot hatch X1
Take the previous generation of the X1 and remove its practical back end, and you get an X2. It’s a hot hatch in the vein of a VW GTI, with four doors and a punchy motor. For 2023, the only real change is the addition of the X2 GoldPlay edition, which adds some goodies from BMW’s M motorsports catalog. All versions geta a 228-horsepower version of the 2.0-liter turbo four-cylinder. A new version is expected for the 2024 model year.

Which is bigger, X5 or X3?
The BMW X3 is smaller than the X5, but it’s not really down on utility. For 2022 BMW updated the X3 with new exterior bits, like lights and grille, and internally with a new center console and screens. The big news for 2022 was the addition of the 48-volt mild-hybrid addition to upper-level cars. The X3 can be ordered with a 248-horsepower 2.0-liter engine, or a 382-horsepower 3.0-liter in two wheel drive or four-wheel drive trims. The 2023 version is essentially a carryover model.

The X4 is the coupe version of the X3
The only real difference between the X3 and X4 is the hatch. The X4’s is smaller and it holds less stuff. It does sit 2.2 inches lower than the X3, and its body is slightly longer and wider. But, the X3’s excellent driving dynamics stick around for the “Coupe” version of the X3.

How much does BMW X5 cost?
The BMW X5 last saw a major update in 2021, which was significant. It added 3.0-liter six-cylinder and and PHEV drivetrain, which means it has a stout 389 horsepower in the xDrive40e version. Other versions of the X5 (last updated in 2019) include all-wheel drive standard, and engine options that can go from a mild 335 horsepower to an adrenaline junkie’s 523. A third row with two seats is optional.

The X6 is not an SUV, it’s SAC
BMW calls the X6 a Sports Activity Coupe, or SAC. It’s essentially an X5, but with a sportier fastback design. It has the same engines and options as the X5, and can even tow up to 7,200 pounds like the X5. Inside, while the X5 has a welcoming cabin for everyone, the X6 focuses on the driver and most of the controls are aimed at the driver. Unlike the X5, a third row is not available.

Is the BMW X7 a seven-seater?
The BMW X7 is the largest BMW SUV and it can seat six or seven, depending on the configuration. It has an all-new design for 2023 that added a larger grille and more aggressive styling. It also has several new engine options that can increase power. BMW’s wizards at its M group also stepped in for 2023 to develop the M Sport Package for the X7 that could make this one of the fastest, best-handling, seven-passenger vehicles. Or, maybe that’s the new Alpina version which is coming in 2023?
