While the new 2020 Nissan Titan can’t match other full-size trucks in its class as far as production and capabilities, it still feels like a full-size truck. It’s a comfortable, versatile option for truck buyers who want to stand out in the sea of Chevrolet Silverados and the Ford F-150s.

Titan received a minor update for 2020. The cabin is stylish and the powerful V8 powertrain makes the Titan a powerful, upscale ride no matter the configuration. There’s an infotainment system loaded with features and many driver-assist features that helps it compete on the technology front. Nissan’s half-ton truck has a new, bolder exterior for 2020.

Can it run with top competitors? Maybe not. It lacks the towing capacity of its competitors and doesn’t yet have the same audience. While it’s not a game-changer in the pickup-truck arena, it’s still worth a look.

How much is the 2020 Nissan Titan?

The base S model will cost you an estimated $32,500 and according to Car and Driver, it would make a great work truck. The S model has a and rear-wheel drive. Nissan’s Safety Shield is standard on all levels. For $3,500 more, you can add all-wheel drive but keep in mind that choosing it limits you when it comes to adding options. Still, you get the great infotainment system with its 8-inch touchscreen and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration.

Nissan used a V8 engine it calls Endurance in the new Titan. With it are two technologies Nissan used to provide more power. Nissan’s Variable Valve Event and Lift technology adjust the valve lift on the intake said according to Forbes. VVEL offers a higher performance and concise response. The Direct Injection Gas technology allows for better fuel economy, enhanced emissions performance, and an improved wide-open throttle experience.

Titan offers two configurations for its 2020 Titan: Crew Cab and King Cab. There are five total trim levels with the base S, SV, PRO-4X, SL, and the Platinum Reserve. There are three new paint colors for a total of nine color choices.

Give me options

Aside from a choice of cab styles and bed lengths, you can also choose either a standard and long-wheelbase version of the new Titan. The long-wheelbase version offers 20 extra inches in length. With King Cab, you can choose a 6.5 or 8-foot bed while those with Crew Cab are minus 1 foot. The rear-hinged doors on the King Cab make it super easy to load cargo or passengers into the back seats. The Crew Cab offers four standard doors with a roomy seating area beyond that of the King Cab.

Like the other Nissan vehicles, in addition to the base model, there’s a midgrade trim level with the SV (estimated $36,000), the PRO-4X designed for off-roading (estimated $47,000), the luxurious SL (estimated $51,000), and the Platinum Reserve (estimated $56,500).

The base truck has a front bench seat where there are captain’s chairs on all other trim levels that feature a flow-through console. There are several great standard safety features like front-seat side airbags, side curtain airbags, and stability control. There’s a wealth of great available options, depending on the trim package you opt for. There are updated audio systems, a navigation system utility-enhancing cargo bed features, and even a rear-seat DVD entertainment system. If you need towing, there are two packages: SL Max Utility or SV Value Truck.

Off-road fans should appreciate the PRO-4X trim level that includes an electronic locking differential, a lower final-drive ratio, and Rancho shocks. You also get a combination of 18-inch off-road wheels and high-quality off-road tires. Small exterior and interior styling touches make the PRO-4X easy to distinguish from its siblings.

The Platinum Reserve uses top-quality materials for a more upscale version of the vehicle.

What else you need to know

There’s just one powertrain and it offers a 5.6-liter V8 paired with a five-speed automatic transmission. The engine gets a 317-horsepower output with 385 lb-ft of torque. There’s a tow/haul mode that you can use for heavy loads or towing.

While many will be disappointed with a lack of powertrain options and heavy-duty version, the new Titan is more than capable on and off the road with solid power. While many of its peers offer better design and comfort, it’s still an impressive truck.
