Looking for a midsize luxury truck? The Jeep Gladiator Overland trim is one of your options. People have been pretty excited about the 2020 Jeep Gladiator since Jeep hasn’t offered a truck in a really long time. Here’s a look at what it offers.

The Jeep Gladiator

The Gladiator has a similar appearance to the Jeep Wrangler. It has the seven-slot grill and round headlights, but it also has a five-foot pickup bed. It has one engine option, a 3.6-liter Pentastar V-6 engine that generates 285 horsepower. A six-speed manual is the standard transmission, but an eight-speed automatic is an upgrade option.

The Gladiator has best-in-class towing capacity and off-road capabilities. It also is lightweight, has high-strength body-on-frame construction, and comes with Jeep’s convertible top (soft top, body-colored hard top, or black hard top).

In addition, the front windshield folds down. All trims come with a rear back-up camera plus electronic roll mitigation, electronic stability control, electronic trailer sway control, hill start assist, tire pressure monitoring display, and traction control.

Sticker prices

The Jeep Gladiator has four trim levels: Sport, Sport S, Overland, and Rubicon. The base price for the Sport is $33,545. The other trims start at $36,745 for the Sport S, $40,395 for the Overland, and $43,875 for the Rubicon. Extra options, delivery costs, and financing interest add to that price. When fully loaded, the cost can be up near $60,000.

In short, if you’re set on the Overland trim, expect to pay anywhere from $43,875 to $60,000. While this sounds crazy for a mid-size truck, you get plenty of features.

The Jeep Gladiator Overland trim level

The Overland trim is designed for comfort and luxury, while the Rubicon is intended for off-road driving. The Sport and Sport S trims with the Max Tow Package provide the top towing and hauling capabilities. The Max Tow Package option is not available for the Overland trim.

The Overland trim has the largest wheels, coming with 18-inch granite crystal aluminum wheels. Optional features for the Overland include adaptive cruise control and forward-collision warning, remote proximity keyless entry, a remote-start system, Heritage Tan cloth seats, and a Trac-Lok anti-spin rear differential axle.

There are a couple of options that aren’t available on the Overland trim, including advanced brake assist, blind-spot and cross-path detection, rear park-assist, and Selec-Speed® control. The Rubicon has additional off-road features and accessory options.

The Overland has a lower ride height than the Rubicon and different tires, making it more comfortable on the road. Additionally, the Overland also has body-colored fender flares, while the Rubicon has black ones (body-colored are an option).

The Overland trim has differences in the interior as well. While leather-trimmed bucket seats are an option, the Overland comes standard with its own cloth bucket seats, which are different from the other trims.

The Sport and Sport S trims come with a five-inch touchscreen while the Overland and Rubicon trims have the seven-inch touchscreen. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility are standard on the Overland and Rubicon and optional on the Sport S.

Both screen sizes use the Uconnect infotainment system. Also available only for the Overland and Rubicon is an 8.4-inch Uconnect® 4C NAV system.

Comparison to other midsize trucks

Competitors for the Gladiator Overland are the Chevrolet Colorado, Ford Ranger, GMC Canyon, Honda Ridgeline, Nissan Frontier, and Toyota Tacoma. While the Gladiator might have the highest starting price of the group, it also comes with more.

The Gladiator has four-wheel drive and a V-6 engine, while the competitors come standard with two-wheel drive and a four-cylinder engine. It also has a new, modern design and good infotainment system.

For comparison, the Toyota Tacoma offers six trims, and starting prices are between $26,050 and $43,960. Fully loaded, the top Tacoma TRD Pro is about $47,500. Tacoma buyers can also choose between two engines plus multiple cab configurations and bed sizes.

The Jeep Gladiator Overland can be a pricey purchase compared to other midsize trucks out there. However, it’s hard to beat its luxury feel and countless features.
