When shopping for EVs, not many consumers can even consider the Toyota Mirai. This experimental model is a hydrogen fuel cell vehicle that generates electricity by combining hydrogen and oxygen. Fuel cell batteries only need a few minutes to reach a full charge, but they can’t be energized at standard EV chargers.

Due to this, the Toyota Mirai is only available in California. Does the scarcity of hydrogen fueling stations elevate the price of a fully-loaded one? Toyota breaks down how much you’ll pay for each trim.

The 2022 Toyota Mirai’s price range

Toyota only offers two trims for the Mirai, starting with the Mirai XLE. It starts at $49,500 and already has a lot to offer. The motor inside both available Mirais makes 182 hp and 300 lb-ft of torque. It’s paired with a single-speed transmission and RWD. The XLE has a slightly higher range than the Limited, estimated at 402 miles. 

The Toyota Mirai XLE includes keyless entry and Toyota Smart Key, which allows you to start your vehicle remotely. Auto-leveling LED headlights, heated side mirrors, and 19-inch alloy wheels are standard. The Toyota Mirai has five synthetic leather seats with standard heating for the first row.

A 12.3-inch touchscreen is included and compatible with Apple, Android, and Amazon Alexa devices. Riders can charge their smartphones wirelessly or use one of the three USB charging ports. A premium JBL audio system with fourteen speakers is standard.

The Toyota Mirai XLE also has its navigation system and Wi-Fi hotspot. The standard safety suite includes forward-collision warning with pedestrian detection, blind-spot monitors, adaptive cruise control, and lane-keeping assistance.

With so many features already, the Toyota Mirai understandably doesn’t have a lot of add-ons. One optional package comes standard on the Toyota Mirai Limited, which retails for $66,000.

Is a fully-loaded model a good deal?

The Toyota Mirai Limited has almost everything included on the XLE, plus some notable upgrades. The wheels receive a stylish black finish, and it has a black shark fin antenna on its roof. You’ll also get a panoramic moonroof with a power shade, plus a power-operated rear window sunshade.

Rain-sensing windshield wipers are included, and the rearview mirror now has a HomeLink universal transceiver. You can activate up to three garage doors or outdoor security systems from inside your car with this device.

Speaking of the interior, the Toyota Mirai Limited has ambient interior lighting and three-zone automatic climate control. All four seats have heating and ventilation, plus better adjustability options. 

The front seats have been upgraded with memory settings, and drivers can enjoy a power-adjustable steering wheel. The Limited trim also gains a color head-up display.

The Toyota Mirai Limited is a considerable upgrade, but it doesn’t have the XLE’s heated outside mirrors. You also only get 357 miles on a full battery, but don’t let that steer you away. The Mirai has a history of exceeding range estimates.

Optional features for the 2022 Toyota Mirai

The Advanced Technology Package is standard on the Limited and optional for the XLE. It includes front and rear parking aids, plus illuminated foot pedals. It also has a 360-degree parking camera with an aerial view.

Toyota Mirai Limited drivers can opt for the Toyota Teammate Package. It provides a 10-year subscription to Advanced Drive, which offers hands-free driving and enhanced navigation features. 

With Advanced Drive, the model can also park itself with minimal driver intervention, thanks to an automatic parking system. The Toyota Mirai Limited is also the only trim that can have 20-inch wheels with a polished chrome finish.

Regardless of trim, the purchase of a new Mirai comes with a hydrogen credit. It’s good for six years or $15,000 worth of battery charges. Since you’re saving so much on fuel, one could certainly justify the extra spend on the fully-loaded Toyota Mirai.
