A fully-loaded Hyundai Santa Cruz goes for much more than $26k, though. With all the available options, this small truck climbs closer to the $50k mark.
For that price, you get things like all-season floormats, the turbocharged engine with 281 horsepower, and various safety tech. Unfortunately, there’s no denying that this kind of price puts the 2023 Hyundai Santa Cruz in full-size truck territory when it comes to pricing. But for the right consumer, that might not be an issue.
Is Santa Cruz better than Ford Maverick?
The Hyundai Santa Cruz is better than the Ford Maverick in some ways. It can tow up to 5,000 pounds, and both powertrains are available with all-wheel drive. If you want a 2023 Maverick with AWD, you must ditch the hybrid engine and get the larger EcoBoost powerplant.
At the same time, the Maverick does seem like more of a traditional truck. And that might be what is leading to its popularity. The Blue Oval is a known truck manufacturer, and Hyundai is sort of a newcomer on the scene. Oftentimes, folks prefer a pickup with a Ford, Chevy, or Ram badge on it.
According to CarFigures, Hyundai sold 36,480 Santa Cruz trucks in 2022. On the other hand, nearly 75,000 Maverick pickups were sold by Ford in the same year.
Is the Santa Cruz a hybrid?
The 2023 Hyundai Santa Cruz is not available as a hybrid truck. There have been some rumors that Hyundai might have plans to make a hybrid, PHEV, or even an electric Santa Cruz. But those rumors have not been substantiated yet.
If you want a small hybrid truck, you must look to the Ford Maverick. This pickup truck comes with a standard hybrid engine. And some folks have reported being able to achieve up to 50 mpg with it. And if you know trucks, you know just how impressive that number is.
It is possible that we could see a Hyundai Santa Cruz hybrid in the future. If so, that could help make the Santa Cruz more competitive with the Ford Maverick. But for now, a fully-loaded Hyundai Santa Cruz comes with a traditional combustion engine.
