The Mazda MX-5 Miata has a long-standing tradition as the purest version of a traditional two-door sportscar. While it may not have the power figures to challenge competitors from Audi, Porsche, and Nissan, it’s a favorite among traditionalists. The car is constantly touted for its ratio of price to performance. What trims are available on the Miata and how much is a fully loaded 2023 Mazda MX-5 Miata with all the trimmings? 

MX-5 Miata Sport: $28,050

Although it’s only available in a soft top configuration, the Miata Sport isn’t scarce with standard features. The Miata has Mazda’s i-Activsense safety system featuring blind spot monitoring with cross-traffic alert, lane departure warning, and “Smart City Brake Support.” 

To the right of the three-spoke leather-wrapped steering wheel is a seven-inch infotainment touchscreen with integrated Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Sport models are also fitted with climate control, cloth bucket seats, vinyl leather accents, dual USB ports, and a six-speaker audio system.

MX-5 Miata Club: $31,550—$38,550

Further enhancing the roadster’s backroad liveliness, the Miata Club is sport-tuned with Bilstein dampers and a limited-slip differential. Mazda’s website says additional upgrades include black 17-inch aluminum alloys, a trunk-mounted shark fin antenna, and vinyl leather material on nearly everything but the seats. 

Moreover, a gloss black front air splitter, rear lip spoiler, and seat back trim add sporty design elements. Club models trade the Sport’s six-speaker unit for a Bose nine-speaker system and add subwoofer and headrest speakers. The soft top model is also available in a new Zircon Sand paint color, new for 2023.

Driving enthusiasts may also appreciate the Club’s optional Brembo BBS Recaro Package. For another $4,500, customers will get Brembo front brakes with red-painted front and rear calipers and heated Recaro sport seats. 

Added features include an aero kit with black side sill extensions, a rear bumper skirt, and gunmetal 17-inch BBS forged wheels. A further $1,500 will secure a push-button retractable fastback (RF) top.

MX-5 Miata Grand Touring: $33,050—$35,900

Improving on the Club model, the 2023 Miata Grand Touring carries even more safety and luxury features. Available in a black soft top or body-color RF, the top-of-the-line version sheds the aero kit for a more streamlined look. 

If customers don’t want to row their own gears, the six-speed automatic transmission is available for just $500 extra. Inside, terracotta Nappa leather seats are an upgradable option to the standard black heated leather seats. 

Dark interior accents are swapped for bright silver finishes while adding navigation, automatic climate control, and a three-year SiriusXM subscription. Additional safety features for the Grand Touring include adaptive front lighting and traffic sign recognition.

Which 2023 Mazda MX-5 Miata should you choose?

The Miata has come a long way from its stripped-down, efficiency-style predecessor. Yet, the ND generation MX-5 doesn’t trade its dependable performance when stuffed with well-trimmed leather innards.

For the luxury-minded, the fully-loaded Grand Touring is a respectable $35,900, which includes the automatic transmission. Stack on $1,275 for the destination fee, and the fully loaded MX-5 Miata with all the bells and whistles is $37,175, save for dealer markups. 

The performance-inclined, however, will have to pay more. Including the destination fee, Club models like the racing brake and seat package will fetch just shy of $40,000. 

Given its relative lavishness and performance that punches above its weight, the Miata Club is packed with value. Parked next to its German and Japanese rivals, it’s still a winner in many hearts and minds.
