The highest 2023 Subaru Legacy trim is the Touring, which starts at $37,155. The Touring is at the top of the lineup, and TrueCar says that the car comes fully optioned. Touring trim owners can expect ventilated Nappa leather front seats, a 180-degree front-view monitoring system, an 11.6-inch infotainment touchscreen, and powered folding wing mirrors. However, even the top-trim Legacy Touring neglects to offer a hybrid like the Honda Accord and Hyundai Sonata. 

However, to the Subaru’s credit, the Legacy offers standard AWD. While that might not sound like a hybrid-sized game changer, AWD is a sought-after feature for drivers who live in challenging climates. Neither the Honda Accord nor the Hyundai Sonata offers AWD of any kind. 

What is the cheapest Legacy?

The cheapest 2023 Subaru Legacy trim is the 2.5i, which starts at around $24,490. Every Legacy boasts Subaru’s standard AWD system, so even the entry-level 2.5i is more sure-footed than some competitors. However, part of the burden of a heavy AWD system is fuel economy, where the Legacy falters behind some competition. For instance, the entry-level Honda Accord LX manages 30 mpg city and 38 mpg at highway speeds, while the 2.5i returns just 27 mpg city and 35 mpg highway. 

Still, with a starting price below $25,000, the 2023 Subaru Legacy 2.5i is cheaper than a comparable Hyundai Sonata or Honda Accord. Both of those contenders start at over $26,000. 

Is the Subaru Legacy considered a luxury car?

While TrueCar hails the Legacy’s ride as “remarkably smooth,” the Subaru sedan is more of a mainstream midsize sedan than a dedicated luxury option. However, with the range-topping Touring trim offering luxurious amenities like ventilated Napa leather seats, the Legacy isn’t what you’d call austere. Still, if you’re looking for more of a luxury option, you could consider a much-more-expensive and posh Lexus ES, which starts at $42,100. 

Is it worth buying a 2023 Subaru Legacy?

The 2023 Subaru Legacy is certainly worth your consideration if you’re looking for an understated midsize sedan with standard AWD. Furthermore, the Subaru Legacy boasts a Top Safety Pick+ rating from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). However, it should be mentioned that the Legacy shares the top safety rating with the closely-comparable Honda Accord and Nissan Altima. 

So, while the Legacy isn’t the only midsize sedan with a Top Safety Pick+ rating, it’s the only option on the list with standard AWD and an attractive starting price point.
