While there have been rumors that a 2023 GMC Jimmy was hitting the market, it was mostly a custom build. The GMC Jimmy of the past was an SUV built from the 1970s until the 1990s that was mechanically similar to the Chevrolet S-10 Blazer and, later, the K5 Blazer. This two-door sport utility vehicle from GMC is still changing hands on enthusiast websites, one of which just sold for $145,000 on Bring a Trailer earlier this year.

Is GMC making a Jimmy?

Unfortunately, the GMC Jimmy news that surfaced last year was about a build by a company called Flat Out Auto. GM Authority says the Flat Out Autos’ GMC Jimmy AT4 price is $129,950 and includes the 2023 GMC Sierra or 2023 Chevy Silverado base.

After the early 1990s, the Jimmy became the Chevrolet Blazer; the rest is history. Bring a Trailer has some exemplary options that have sold in the last five years. The cheapest GMC Jimmy to hit the Bring a Trailer market sold for $5,000. Back in 2017, this 1979 Jimmy with 55,000 miles on it. It has a 400ci V8 engine with a three-speed automatic transmission and a six-inch lift.

The used car scene was not the same back in 2017, and the next one to sell wouldn’t hit the market until early 2019 for $8,750. It has been on an upward trend ever since. Check out some of the most recent sales below, showing a major uptick in cost and amount.

How much will a GMC Jimmy cost?

The image above shows various sales and listings of GMC Jimmy SUVs over the last few years. Since 2020, there have been more than 80 listings for Jimmys, most of which are from the 1970s. The Jimmy was also one of the most influential models from GMC and even helped shape the performance SUV that came after it called the Typhoon.

In the last two years, most of the Jimmys listed on BaT are between $20,000 and $60,000. The ones that have been restored or upgraded are on the higher end, such as the Vortec-powered 1973 Jimmy 4×4 that sold earlier in April for $38,000. A nicely restored 400-Powered 1971 Jimmy 4×4 with 88,000 miles went for $50,250. A 1970 GMC JImmy 4×4 sold for $10,000 not that long ago that would have made a good project car.

Even though the Jimmy has increased in value over the last few years, there are still some project-worthy options out there. Otherwise, some of the better options on the market might cost a little extra. A restored Jimmy is more expensive but a lot less work.

There could be a modern Jimmy on the market one day

Nostalgia has been a big seller recently, and the Ford Bronco has been extremely popular since it hit the market again. GMC is still trucking along and has some popular options in its lineup, like the new Hummer EV Pickup and SUV, along with the Yukon and Terrain SUVs. If GMC were to revive the Jimmy, it could have another hit on its hands.

Until GMC decides to bring back the Jimmy, get ready to cough up some cash for an already restored version. You could start a new chapter of the Jimmy fan club in your local area since these vintage SUVs are back in style again.
