Ford is currently one of the leading electric vehicle manufacturers in the world. One of its biggest entries is the electric Ford F-150 Lightning. However, since its debut, it has been on a price rollercoaster. The automaker recently reduced its price significantly, but the F-150 still carries a high price tag. So, how much is the cheapest 2023 Ford F-150 Lightning, and is it worth the price?

Overview of the basic model Ford F-150 Lightning

The F-150 Lightning looks and does almost everything the regular F-150 does. The only difference between the two is what’s underneath the two vehicles. The Lightning comes with two electric motors powered by either of two battery packs. The Standard-Range battery generates 452 hp while the larger Extended-Range battery puts out 580 hp, taking an impressive 4.0 seconds to go from 0 to 60 mph.

The Lightning also has a lower center of gravity, which controls body roll. The smaller 98.0-kWh battery delivers up to 230 miles of range for every single charge. The larger 131.0-kWH battery pack gives the Lightning an extra driving range of up to 320 miles.

The automaker claims it can take about 44 minutes for the battery to charge from 15% to 80% capacity. Drivers can charge their trucks from the convenience of their own homes via the 110 and 220-volt outlets, but DC fast charging stations are also available for those on the go.

The truck’s infotainment system displays on a 12.0-inch touchscreen with the automaker’s latest Sync 4 software. The truck also has different connectivity options, including Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and Wi-Fi hotspot.

Ford F-150 Lightning Pro price cuts

When the Lightning debuted in 2022, enthusiasts liked it for different reasons, but a significant highlight was its slightly affordable starting price. The 2022 Ford EV had a starting price of $40,000, making it more affordable than most EVs. However, when the 2023 model rolled around, Ford announced it had increased the price, bringing the base trim’s starting price to $60,000.

Ford claimed that the price bump had little to do with demand for the truck and more with “significant material cost increases and other factors.” However, like most EV automakers, the brand had to slash its Lightning price because it was too high.

In July 2023, Ford took off $10,000 from the price tag, bringing the Lightning’s base price to $50,000. The other trims also had price cuts, although none were as drastic as the base trim’s.

Ford attributed the price cuts to the improvements made at the Rouge Electric Vehicle Center in Michigan, which is set to produce 150,000 Lightning tucks once it reopens this fall.

Is the Ford F-150 Lightning Pro price worth it?

The F-150 Lightning is a great truck with plenty of benefits. It’s a solid family vehicle that can be turned into a mobile generator if your power goes out. Its wide truck bed also comes in handy for work and play, not to mention its advanced safety features. To some people, these might be desirable features and advantages that justify the $50,000 price tag.

However, it’s important to note that the 2023 model hasn’t had any substantial upgrades except the additional color options. Additionally, the already modest standard range drops if you tow, which is to be expected but still unfortunate.

If the F-150 Lightning is a total must-have, then the high price tag is worth it. However, it’s advisable to wait a bit longer until it becomes more widely available. Hopefully, Ford will have restored the truck’s original $40,000 price by then.
