Although the 2023 Ford Maverick was just released, it appears that it has already sold out. And that just goes to show how popular Ford’s small pickup truck truly is. If you are interested in a Maverick and want to buy one right now, you likely need to look to the used market. Thankfully, it looks like there are plenty of 2022 Ford Mavericks available. But, if you are expecting a cheap truck, you might be in for a shock.
How expensive is the 2022 Ford Maverick?
One of the biggest selling points of the Maverick pickup truck is how affordable it is. On the used market and even at dealerships, the numbers tell a different story for the 2022 Maverick. Even Mavericks in the XL trim are selling for over $30,000. And that is certainly above the MSRP which is around $20k.
Unfortunately, this keeps the 2022 Maverick from being a cheap truck. Although, that does show that Ford did a decent job building this compact pickup. It comes standard with a hybrid engine, which seems to be the most popular variant. Or you can pay a premium for a more powerful turbocharged engine.
Is Ford’s small truck a good pickup?
Although it does not offer things like the Tremor package, the 2022 Ford Maverick is a solid pickup. It can tow up to 4,000 pounds when properly equipped. And you can even get it outfitted with the FX4 Off-Road package, which adds some legitimate off-road capability. A quick search on AutoTempest does show that you will be paying closer to $40k if you want a Maverick FX4.
The Ford Maverick shares its platform with the Ford Escape and Ford Bronco Sport. Because of this, it is a unibody truck. And even though it isn’t as capable as something like a Ford F-150, it can still do truck stuff. If you opt for the turbocharged engine with 250 horsepower, you can also get all-wheel drive. Which is something that some buyers are likely to appreciate.
Can you buy a 2023 Ford Maverick?
If you want a 2023 Maverick, you are likely out of luck. Nearly as soon as orders opened, it seems like the Blue Oval was forced to close them. No auto manufacturer has been immune to supply chain issues, and Ford is no exception. Plus, the Maverick is just a great small truck.
Perhaps in the future, prices of used Ford Mavericks will calm down. Allowing more folks to get behind the wheel of this compact pickup. But, if the 2022 Maverick is any indication, people are still willing to pay above MSRP for one.
According to Car and Driver, the 2022 Ford Maverick XLT represents the best value. It adds things like cruise control as well as aluminum wheels. Although, there is something cool about the steel wheels featured on the base trim. The Lariat is the top package you can get on Ford’s small truck. But, it’s not cheap, even if you find a used model.
