How Much is a Polestar 2 Single-Motor?
Up until now, only a dual-motor version of the Polestar 2 electric fastback was available in the US. About a year ago, the automaker announced it would release a single-motor Polestar 2. That was long ago, but it’s only just now reaching US dealers. A Polestar 2 with more range and efficiency but a little less power sounds excellent, so here’s how much the single-motor version costs.
How much is a Polestar 2 single-motor?
Customers can order a Polestar 2 single-motor electric fastback for $47,200. A $1,300 destination charge is included, but applicable state and federal incentives help drop the price. Motor1 noted that the Polestar 2 single-motor costs as low as $33,400 in New Jersey. Unfortunately, the incentives vary by state, so your location decides how much money you’ll get back for buying one.
Contrarily, the dual-motor setup is available starting at $51,200. While that isn’t too much more expensive than the single-motor version, it received a significant discount since going on sale. According to Car and Driver, “Polestar has significantly lowered the 2’s price by between $14,000 and $15,000, depending on the model.” Paying for the dual-motor version lands customers with more features but less driving range.
Polestar 2 single-motor battery, range, power
Buying this electric vehicle gains customers an EPA-estimated 270 miles of driving range per charge. The setup powers the front wheels and makes 231 horsepower with only one motor. All of this is made possible by the 78-kWh battery pack. Once owners drive around 270 miles, recharging won’t take long. The Polestar 2 supports up to 155-kW DC charging, which will have it charged from 10 to 80 percent in just 33 minutes.
Compared to the dual-motor variant, the cheaper model gets more range. For example, a dual-motor Polestar 2 can drive 249 miles without stopping to recharge. That’s roughly 21 miles fewer than the single-motor setup. However, there are obvious benefits to paying more to have two motors. Most prominently is the extra horsepower and torque. Fortunately, just about all optional packages for additional features are available for either version of the 2.
What are some available features for the electric vehicle?
Whichever motor setup you choose, Polestar offers Plus and Pilot upgrade packages. It’ll cost you $4,000 for the Plus and $3,200 extra for the Pilot package, but the automaker makes it worth your while. Moreover, the Plus package adds a mechanical heat pump to extend the car’s range. A WeaveTech vegan interior, 13-speaker Harman Kardon audio system, and full-length panoramic glass roof are included. Inside the Pilot pack, you’ll find enhanced safety features like adaptive cruise control, Polestar Pilot Assist, and blind-spot monitoring.
Thankfully, like Tesla models, Polestar models can receive over-the-air updates. This is very important for an electric vehicle in 2022. The over-the-air capability allows vehicles to receive software fixes and upgrades throughout its life without replacing hardware or visiting a dealership. Motor1 noted that last year in Europe, an update added 67 horsepower and 50 lb-ft of torque to some Polestar models.
Should you buy a Polestar 2 single-motor?
The Polestar 2 has been available for a while now with only the dual-motor option. Customers who found the car desirable but too expensive will find the perfect alternative in the single-motor option. In addition, anyone who needs a little more driving range per charge than the dual-motor offers has their solution. The single-motor Polestar 2 costs $47,200 and provides more driving range than the other version. Overall, it’s an excellent electric fastback that’s shockingly affordable.
