The Jeep Wrangler. It’s an icon. From its boxy styling to its ability to hit the trails, this SUV has become one of the most recognizable in its segment. What it’s not known for? Being reliable. While the Jeep Wrangler may be popular, it’s definitely not the most reliable SUV out there. Unfortunately, the same can be already be said of the 2021 Jeep Wrangler.

The Jeep Wrangler’s overall reliability ratings

There’s really no beating around the bush here. The Jeep Wrangler isn’t known for being the most reliable SUV in its segment. In fact, when it comes to Consumer Reports’ data, the only Jeep Wrangler to earn a four out of five overall reliability rating was the 2020 Jeep Wrangler. Before that, Consumer Reports gave most Wrangler models a one or two out of five predicted reliability rating.

Consumer Reports isn’t the only outlet to have given the Jeep Wrangler some less than impressive reliability ratings. According to J.D. Power, while plenty of model years were able to earn a ‘Great’ quality and reliability rating, the 2019 Jeep Wrangler only earned an ‘Average’ quality and reliability rating from J.D. Power.

The 2021 Jeep Wrangler’s reliability ratings

The outlook for the 2021 Jeep Wrangler isn’t much better. According to Consumer Reports, this year’s Wrangler earned a two out of five predicted reliability rating. Consumer Reports marked the Wrangler’s suspension, power equipment, and in-car electronics as potential trouble spots.

U.S. News & World Report also gave this year’s model some pretty dismal reliability ratings. According to its data, this year’s Wrangler earned only a two out of five predicted reliability rating. Unfortunately, J.D. Power has yet to rate the 2021 Jeep Wrangler.

However, the good news is that the 2021 Jeep Wrangler does come with a three-year/36,000-mile limited warranty and a five-year/60,000-mile powertrain warranty. This year’s model hasn’t faced any recalls from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration either.

What current owners have to say about it

While the 2021 Jeep Wrangler hasn’t earned the most impressive reliability ratings, it does have some owners singing its praises on Edmunds. According to one Wrangler owner, “This is not the Wrangler I had 20 years ago that’s for sure! Jeep has re-imagined the ride making it a lot smoother and much more efficient while keeping the same Jeep Wrangler design, style, and make that I loved so much then and even more now!”

Though, it shouldn’t come as much of a surprise that owners are plenty happy after purchasing the 2021 Jeep Wrangler. After all, according to Consumer Reports, it did earn a four out of five predicted owner satisfaction rating.

Is the 2021 Jeep Wrangler a good SUV to buy?

There’s no denying that the Jeep Wrangler isn’t the most reliable SUV available. But does that mean you should avoid it altogether? Not necessarily. That doesn’t mean it’s a good SUV to buy either. All it means is that, before finalizing your purchase, you should probably keep in mind that the 2021 Jeep Wrangler may not turn out to be the most reliable vehicle you’ve ever owned.
