The 2020 Infiniti QX80 is a fine-looking luxury SUV that’s more capable than you would probably think. This Infiniti model may not be at the top of its class, but it’s still a solid option to buy, depending on your priorities that is. Consumer Reports and J.D. Power gave the 2020 QX80 average reliability ratings too. J.D. Power based its dependability scores on how the 2019 QX80 performed. On the other hand, CR doesn’t have detailed data on the QX80. Because of this, CR has based its predicted reliability score on how Infiniti models perform overall. CR ranked the Infiniti brand 13/30 for reliability.

What the 2020 QX80 does well

Performance capabilities are where the QX80 shines. This large SUV gets its power from a muscular 400-hp, 5.6-liter V8 engine that’s mated with seven-speed automatic transmission. This pairing makes for a wonderfully smooth and controlled ride. The QX80 is ideal for those who want a gentle driving experience since this SUV isn’t particularly sporty.

The QX80 is capable enough for off-roading which makes it more compelling. However, it’s not fuel-efficient. The QX80 gets a combined 16 mpg which is low, even for the large SUV class. Low fuel economy ratings are not necessarily a deal-breaker but this does counterbalance the QX80’s lower maintenance costs.

Overall, the QX80 has a handsome and comfortable cabin. This three-row SUV comes standard with leather upholstery and can seat up to seven passengers if you keep the regular second-row captain’s seats. If you select the second-row bench configuration, the SUV can seat up to eight people. And on the plus side, the QX80’s third-row actually offers enough space for adults.

The QX80 also does very well in the technology department. It comes standard with a  touch-controlled, dual-screen infotainment system that has navigation, a large Bose sound system, satellite radio, Android Auto, and Apple CarPlay. You can also upgrade to a wifi hotspot, rear-seat entertainment system, and even larger Bose stereo. There’s a long list of advanced safety features available too. 

Final thoughts

The 2020 QX80 is fairly reliable and offers a plush cabin and a satisfying riding experience. Its fuel-economy ratings are a considerable downside though. If you have your heart set on a large Infiniti SUV, you might want to consider the QX60 also.
