2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee standard safety features

The 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee comes with a long list of standard safety features. Opt for the base model, and you can expect it to have all of the usual safety features, including driver front-impact airbags, passenger front-impact airbags, driver side-impact airbags, passenger side-impact airbags, and an overhead airbag. This year’s model also comes standard with confidence-inspiring safety features such as brake assist, traction control, electronic stability control with anti-roll, blindspot warnings, a rearview camera, and rear parking sensors.

But those aren’t the only safety features that the 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee can be had with. This year’s model is also available with the automaker’s ProTech Safety and Security Packages. Opt for the ProTech II package, which is available on Laredo and Laredo X models, and benefit from safety features like forward collision warning with active braking, advanced brake assist, lane departure warnings with lane keep assist, and automatic high-beams.

ProTech II, which is available on Limited, Trailhawk, and Overland models, includes safety features like Full-Speed Forward Collision Warning with Active Braking, Advanced Brake Assist, Lane Departure Warning with Lane Keep Assist, Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop and Go, Parallel and Perpendicular Park Assist, and Rain-Sensing Windshield Wipers. How this year’s model did in crashworthiness tests

While the 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee does come stocked with safety features, what’s most important is how this year’s model actually did in crashworthiness tests. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), this year’s model earned itself a five-star overall safety rating, which is pretty impressive. 

Break that five-star rating down, and you’ll find that the Grand Cherokee earned a four-star rating in frontal crashworthiness tests. It also earned a five-star rating in the NHTSA’s side crashworthiness tests. As for its rollover rating? The NHTSA gave the 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee four-stars.

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) also put the 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee through several crashworthiness tests. Unfortunately, it didn’t fare quite as well as it did in the IIHS’ crashworthiness tests. It earned a ‘Marginal’ rating in small overlap front: driver-side crashworthiness tests and a ‘Poor’ rating in small overlap front: passenger-side crashworthiness tests. The Jeep Grand Cherokee also earned an ‘Average’ rating for its headlights.
