2021 Jeep Renegade standard safety features

Now, the 2021 Jeep Renegade comes well-stocked with safety features. All models come standard with the usual suspects. You know the ones – airbags, traction control, and brake assist. This year’s model also comes standard with driver-assist features like blind-spot monitoring, lane departure warning with lane-keep assist, and rear-cross traffic alerts. 

But those aren’t the only safety features the 2021 Jeep Renegade can be had with. To further inspire confidence, this year’s model is also available with forward-collision warnings with brake assist and adaptive cruise control. And to help you safely navigate parking lots? The Renegade offers up safety features like front, and rear park assist, parallel and perpendicular park and exit assist, and Jeep’s ParkView Rear Back Up Camera.

How the IIHS scored the 2021 Jeep Renegade 

Unfortunately, while the Renegade may be stocked to the brim with confidence-inspiring safety features, it didn’t earn the best of all safety ratings. At least not from the IIHS, that is. Though it did earn a ‘Good’ rating in the IIHS’ small overlap front: driver-side tests, it earned an ‘Acceptable’ rating in its small overlap front: passenger-side tests. 

The IIHS knocked off some points for the Jeep Renegade’s headlights too. Headlights on the Renegade’s Latitude trim equipped with the Luxury Group I package, 80th Anniversary trim equipped with the Luxury Group II package, and the Limited trim equipped with the Luxury Group II package, all received an ‘Acceptable’ rating. 

Meanwhile, the Trailhawk trim equipped with the Luxury Group III package earned a ‘Marginal’ rating. As for Renegade models equipped with halogen headlights? Those models’ headlights earned a ‘Poor’ rating from the IIHS.

This year’s Renegade also took a hit for its child seat anchors. It comes equipped with two rear seating positions, both complete with child seat attachment (LATCH) hardware. Unfortunately, the IIHS says the tether anchors are too deep into the seat, which earned the Renegade an ‘Acceptable’ LATCH ease of use rating.

But there is some good news. While the Renegade earned some pretty disappointing ratings, it did earn a ‘Superior’ rating in the IIHS’ front crash prevention: vehicle-to-vehicle tests.

The 2021 Jeep Renegade’s NHTSA scores

The IIHS isn’t the only organization that put this year’s Renegade to the test. The NHTSA also put the 2021 model through a long list of safety tests. Unfortunately for the Renegade, it didn’t land the highest score possible. Overall, the NHTSA gave the Jeep Renegade a four-star safety rating.

So where did things go wrong? Well, according to the NHTSA, the 2021 Jeep Renegade earned a four-star rating in its front driver side and front passenger-side tests. It also earned a four-star safety rating in its side barrier and pole tests. Even more disappointing is the Renegade’s rollover rating. Not only did this year’s model earn a three-star rating but the NHTSA also says it’s a 22.80% rollover risk.

Is the Jeep Renegade a safe car?

Unfortunately, the 2021 Jeep Renegade isn’t the safest compact SUV out there. While the Renegade certainly comes standard with plenty of safety features, those safety features didn’t do this year’s model many favors. Sure, it earned a ‘Superior’ rating in the IIHS’ front crash prevention: vehicle-to-vehicle tests, but it also earned less than stellar ratings in several other categories. So if you’re after a safe SUV? Then you might want to steer clear of the Renegade.
