The 2021 Mazda CX-30 comes stocked with standard safety features. All CX-30 models come standard with advanced dual front airbags, front seat-mounted side-impact airbags and side-impact air curtains, and driver’s and front passenger’s knee airbags. The new Mazda CX-30 is also standard with whiplash-reducing front seat headrests, an anti-lock brake system with brake assist, and a traction control system. 

And if you’re after an SUV that comes standard with plenty of driver-assist features? You’ll be pleased to find that the 2021 Mazda CX-30 is offered with quite a few of them. Standard on all models are sought after driver-assist features like smart brake support, a lane departure warning system, lane-keep assist, radar cruise control, driver attention alerts, and high beam control.

But those aren’t the only driver-assist features that this year’s new Mazda CX-30 can be had with. Opt for a higher trim level, and you can scoop up a CX-30 equipped with advanced safety features such as a blind-spot monitoring system, rear cross-traffic alerts, and an adaptive front-lighting system. 

How the Mazda CX-30 fared in crashworthiness tests

With so many standard and available safety features to its name, you may be wondering how the 2021 Mazda CX-30 fared in crashworthiness tests. Fortunately, this year’s model handled itself pretty well. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) gave this year’s new CX-30 a five-star overall safety rating. It was only in the NHTSA’s rollover resistance test that the CX-30 earned a four-star rating.

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) also put this year’s model through some rigorous crashworthiness tests. Fortunately, the 2021 CX-30 scored ‘Good’ in all tests. However, the Premium version did take a hit for its LED headlights. In the end, though, the IIHS tapped the 2021 CX-30 as a Top Safety Pick+.

This SUV is pretty reliable too

The 2021 Mazda CX-30 isn’t just a safe SUV. This year’s model is also predicted to be pretty reliable. According to Consumer Reports, this year’s new CX-30 earned itself a five out of five predicted reliability rating. Though, that shouldn’t come as too much of a surprise. Per Consumer Reports’ data, the 2020 CX-30 also earned a five out of five overall reliability rating.

Is the 2021 Mazda CX-30 a good SUV?

All in all, the 2021 Mazda CX-30 makes for a pretty good pick among its segment. It’s loaded with standard safety features and was able to score some pretty high safety ratings from both the NHTSA and the IIHS. Consider its impressive reliability ratings, and it’s hard to deny that this Mazda has a lot going for it.
