Max payload and towing capacity: According to Motor 1, the Silverado has a max towing capacity of 12,200 lbs. This is below the towing capacity of both the F-150 and Ram 1500, which can tow 13,200 and 12,750 lbs, respectively. But it does have a towing capacity higher than the GMC Sierra, Toyota Tundra, and the Nissan Titan. When it comes to max payload capacity, the Silverado sits in the same position behind both the F-150 and Ram 1500, able to carry 2,290 lbs.

Fuel economy: The Chevrolet Silverado gets an average fuel economy rating of between 15-20 mpg in the city and 20-23 mpg on the highway, depending on your trim/powertrain option, according to Autoblog. Compared to its two biggest competitors, the Ram 1500 and Ford F-150, it could be better. The Ram 1500 comes with a highway fuel economy rating of up to 27 mpg and the Ford F-150 comes with a highway fuel economy rating of up to 26 mpg.

Base price: According to Motor Trend, the 2019 Silverado has a base price of $29,795-$54,495, depending on the trim level. While Ford’s F-150 has a lower-trim base price of $29,500, the highest trim will set you back at least $63,000. The Ram 1500 has an even higher base price of $33,340, while the GMC Sierra has one of the highest, at $39,595. The Silverado stands as one of the most affordable options in the pickup segment.

Where the experts place the Chevrolet Silverado

According to Consumer Reports’ rankings, the 2019 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 sits as the fifth-best full-size pickup. Ranking at the top of the board is the Ford F-150, followed by the Ram 1500, as well as the 2019-2020 Toyota Tundra. The Silverado 1500 received an overall score of 58 out of 100 from Consumer Reports, with a predicted owner satisfaction score of four out of five. But Consumer Reports only gave the 2019 Silverado a predicted reliability score of two out of five, with previous models having problems in areas such as the drive system, transmission, suspension, climate system, paint/trim, power equipment, and in-car electronics.

The experts at Car and Driver also rank the 2019 Chevrolet Silverado as the fifth-best among all full-size pickups in the segment. Even after its full redesign, it was given the distinction of being “no better than the truck it replaces.” When stacked up among other best-selling trucks, the Silverado’s interior is mediocre and the suspension feels a bit sloppy. In fact, Car and Driver recommend the lower-trim Silverado over the more expensive options.

What sets the Chevrolet Silverado apart from the competition

For all of its recent changes, Kelley Blue Book awards the 2019 Chevrolet Silverado with an expert rating of 4.4 out of five and a consumer rating of five out of five. What separates the Silverado from its competition is its affordability, customer satisfaction, and recent improvements. It has the “largest cargo volume with all bed lengths,” a variety of powertrain choices, and plenty of trim levels to choose from. As America’s second-best-selling truck, the Silverado offers performance and value.
