According to The Drive, it’s actually very likely that the Toyota Tacoma won’t even see a full workup and release a new model until 2024. Given its history of long generations, it should come as no surprise that this durable pickup is going to keep us on our toes for the next few years.

With the 2022 Toyota Tundra reportedly on the horizon, it’s easy to get ahead of ourselves and commence daydreaming about the next Taco. But sheesh! We probably won’t see this thing for a long time, let’s slow down.

How will the Toyota Tacoma survive until 2024?

Surviving till 2022 might be a bit of an issue. But surviving until 2024? The truck is about to test the limits of its fans and converts. The beloved Taco rarely sees much decline in the way of sales. However, we’ve already seen the current generation release models that are quickly labeled. Critics say they are dated or call them dinosaurs.

So how on earth will the Toyota’s popular Tacoma survive? It comes down to loyalty. These trucks are so durable. Their long generations contribute to that longevity as well as up the resale value. Older models still look more relevant because the model aren’t receiving updates every year like some others.

So the Toyota Tacoma will survive not only till 2022, but until 2024 as well based on the love of its fans. Plus, people don’t buy the Tacoma because they want some futuristic model. Buyers flock to the legendary Taco because it keeps things simple.

New Toyota Tacoma editions

There is one thing we are pretty certain of. With updates come new editions. One way that Toyota’s popular Tacoma keeps up with the times is by adding various special edition trim levels. Trail oriented of off-road-tuned models appear. Plus, appearance packages make their way into the lineup.

Overall, the Tacoma isn’t paving the way for untried invention and untested tech. Toyota will only add things to its important compact pickup truck if they are already tested, tried and true. This is actually another reason the Tacoma maintains such steadfast durability. By tweaking some TRD equipment or adding some new tech, Toyota will do what it can to keep the Toyota Tacoma up with the Joneses.

What can we expect for the new model?

We honestly don’t know anything about the upcoming redesign of the Toyota Tacoma compact pickup truck. We don’t know when, or what. But we can definitely make some guesses.

As hybrid power becomes more necessary in the lineup of every automaker, it’s not crazy to assume that the (speculative) 2024 Toyota Tacoma redesign might include a hybrid powertrain. Heck, we could even see a Tacoma Prime in the next few years. Especially since we know Toyota has big plans for hybridizing or electrifying its entire lineup.

Really we are just having fun imagining what the new Toyota Tacoma could be. But as far as press releases and cold hard facts, we are just going to have to wait a bit longer. When we know more, we can muse further into the existence of the future Taco. Until then, we will just have to watch Toyota’s popular Tacoma do whatever it takes to survive until 2022 and then tentatively on through 2024.
