Things are officially in motion as the Ford F-150 Lightning enters production. But if you want one, you better hurry up. Some 2022 Ford F-150 Lightning models are already sold out. Ford already stopped accepting orders for the most popular trim levels.

How many 2022 Ford F-150 Lightning models are available?

Reportedly, about 15,000 2022 Ford F-150 Lightning models will be manufactured for 2022. Reservation holders can expect deliveries to begin in the spring of 2022. The F-150 Lightning has officially entered production and remains on track for now.

But of course, the ongoing pandemic and semiconductor chip shortage may change things. We hope the Lightning doesn’t face delays because Ford already racked up 200,000 reservations. This feels like a bit more than Ford can chew.

However, to help more drivers get behind the wheel of the electric F-150, production is increasing. Ford is working to double production to about 80,000 units by 2024.

That’s good for people about two years from now. It’s possible that production speed could increase as Ford continues looking for ways to remove constraints and meet customer needs.

Is the F-150 Lightning sold out?

Almost! Ford stopped taking reservations after reaching the 200,000 mark. The Ford F-150 Lightning Pro and F-150 XLT models are sold out this year for retail customers. This leaves the Lariat and Platinum trims as the only options left.

The Ford F-150 Lightning configurator currently displays available options, but it doesn’t list any information about waiting times. Contacting your local dealer is probably the best way to learn more.

If you don’t have a reservation, you aren’t out of luck. It’s possible that you could find an F-150 Lightning model available at a dealership lot. Hopefully, if you find one, it won’t have a massive markup.

According to AutoBlog, the door isn’t completely closed on 2022 models yet. Ford shared that as commodities become available, future invitations for currently sold-out models may be sent to those who extended their reservation to the 2023 model year.

About 80 percent of reservation holders are expected to end up buying trucks. But that still puts a significant demand on a limited inventory.

If you feel optimistic, you can go after the 2022 Ford F-150 Lightning Platinum trim for about $92,669 or the Lariat for $69,269.

So, you’ll need to spend about $14,500 more than the XLT model before incentives kick in. Also, it’s about $27,500 more than the F-150 Lightning Pro, which was only available with the standard range battery for retail customers.

The Pro has an MSRP of $39,974. The standard-range battery provides 426 hp and 775 lb-ft of torque and a range of about 230 miles.

With the Extended-Range battery, you get 563 hp and 775 lb-ft of torque. It gets an EPA-estimated 320 miles of range. When properly equipped, the Lightning can tow up to 10,000 lbs.

While the cheapest models of the F-150 Lightning are sold out, you might be able to get a more expensive model this year. Otherwise, it might be best to wait until the order books open for 2023 models.
