If you want the Ram 1500 EcoDiesel, then the clock is ticking. As Stellnatis moves toward pioneering fuel-saving systems, the diesel engine is on the chopping block. This is your last chance for a new Ram 1500 EcoDiesel model.

It’s difficult to say goodbye to an industry leader, but the Ram 1500 EcoDiesel is living on borrowed time. Production of the EcoDiesel engine will come to a close in January 2023. But at least you have one more chance to get it before it’s gone.

The 2023 Ram 1500 EcoDiesel can be ordered now in CrewCab 4×4 models. It will be available in the Tradesman, Big Horn, Lone Star, Laramie, Limited Longe Horn, and Limited models.

The EcoDiesel engine is being dropped as Stellantis moves to more efficient options. The battery electric Ram (BEV) will arrive in 2024. Plus, more electric options will be available by 2025.

Stellantis also plans to debut more efficient mild-hybrid engines and is working toward providing an electric solution in each segment by 2030.

What’s so great about the Ram EcoDiesel engine?

The Ram 1500 EcoDiesel engine has been an industry leader for nearly a decade. Ram offers the fastest, most powerful, and most fuel-efficient 4×4 truck straight from the factory.

Mkie Koval Jr., Ram Brand CEO, shared that the Ram V6 EcoDiesel engine has delighted customers with the highest half-ton torque diesel rating and towing capacity while being the first to exceed 1,000 miles of range.

Now, as it gets closer to its electrified future, Ram wanted to celebrate this last EcoDiesel milestone by offering light-duty diesel enthusiasts one last chance to order the truck that they love.

The Ecodiesel engine is a 3.0-liter V6 unit that provides 260 hp and 480 lb-ft of torque. This is the best-in-class torque rating. When properly equipped, this engine helps the Ram truck tow up to 12,560 lbs, making it a class leader.

It also gets an EPA-estimated 23 mpg in the city and up to 33 mpg on the highway. This is 30 percent better than the HEMI V8 engine. It gets about 26 mpg combined. It can go more than 1,000 miles on a single fill-up.

Is the Ram EcoDiesel reliable?

The Ram 1500 EcoDiesel engine is incredibly reliable. It should easily last between 200,000 to 300,000 miles with the proper care and maintenance. It lasts much longer than gas-powered engines and could provide up to 50 percent more time behind the wheel.

Regular maintenance involves oil changes about every 10,000 miles. Also, change the oil filters every other oil change and refill the DEF tank during each oil change. Oil changes may be a little more expensive, but you may need them less often.

It costs about $4,995 to add the EcoDiesel engine, while it only costs an extra $2,795 for the HEMI V8. But the fuel savings and longevity could make up for the difference.

Saying goodbye to the EcoDiesel marks the end of an era. Will an electric engine be as good for towing and reliability? Unfortunately, we will have to wait and see.
