This Hyundai EV Could Soon Get a Performance Boost
Much like Kia is doing with the EV6 GT, Hyundai is expected to launch a performance version of its electric crossover, the 2022 Hyundai Ioniq 5. With the N performance line from Hyundai, the brand has experience adding power to its popular models. A Hyundai Ioniq 5 N EV crossover would undoubtedly be a popular vehicle. Although it is worth noting that the standard model is not yet available in all states. While it is still speculative if Hyundai will actually give the Ioniq 5 a power boost, we feel the move just makes sense.
What is the 2022 Hyundai Ioniq 5?
The Hyundai Ioniq 5 is an EV crossover. It has up to 303 miles of estimated range and it can come equipped with all-wheel drive. But currently, the Ioniq 5 only has about 320 horsepower. Now, really anything north of 250 hp is respectable, the instant power delivery of an EV makes them ideal to be performance vehicles.
The Ioniq 5 is available in three trim levels right now. These include the SE, SEL, and Limited trims, which allows buyers to find the proper amount of EV for their needs. The starting price of the 2022 Hyundai Ioniq 5 is $43,650.
Is a performance version of the Ioniq 5 coming?
According to Autoblog, a prototype version of the Ioniq 5 N has been spotted. It was wearing camouflage with the iconic N coloring, so exact details could not be seen. But, we expect that Hyundai will give the Ioniq 5 N more aggressive looks to go with its power.
Additionally, the Hyundai Ioniq N prototype has larger tires than the standard model. This will allow it to take more advantage of its power. In terms of power, we would love to see the powertrain that Kia is giving the EV6 put into the Ioniq 5. This would boost its power output to over 550 hp and make much more torque.
When could the Hyundai Ioniq 5 N go on sale?
It’s uncertain what the timeline of the performance EV crossover will be. Currently, the Ioniq 5 is being sold in extremely limited numbers and is not available in other states. Because of this, it is not necessarily the most popular EV on the market.
As more models arrive at dealerships, an N model would likely make this model more popular. While not everyone will opt for the performance version of this vehicle, they can often help attract more shoppers to the dealership, just to see what it’s all about.
We expect the Ioniq 5 N to go on sale at some point in the near future. Hopefully in a year or so, to capitalize on Hyundai’s EV initiative. More and more EV models are arriving at dealerships, and the Ioniq 5 is soon to be one of them. While there is not a performance version of this EV crossover yet, expect it to be on its way soon. Once it does arrive, numbers are likely to be limited.
