The Hyundai Ioniq 6 Is Too Fast for the Tesla Model 3
Range anxiety and charging times are prominent topics in the electric vehicle world. Options like the Hyundai Ioniq 6 and Tesla Model 3 need enough range to impress owners of traditional vehicles with internal combustion engines. They also need to charge at a rapid rate.
Does the Hyundai Ioniq 6 charge faster than the Tesla Model 3?
It might still be faster to fill up your gas tank than charge an electric vehicle, but the 2023 Hyundai Ioniq 6 is doing great things. It has the fastest charging times out of every EV that MotorTrend tested.
Each electric vehicle was tested along the same route with fast charging stations available. Each model started with the same amount of range as well.
The 2023 Hyundai Ioniq 6 SE Long Range RWD model came in first place. It added 193 miles of range after 15 minutes of charging. After 30 minutes, it added 263 miles and was up to 288 miles after 45 minutes.
After an hour, the Ioniq 6 had 291 miles of range. It took 19 minutes to replenish its charge from five to 80%. It went from a five percent to 100% charge in 48 minutes.
You may have expected the 2023 Telsa Model 3 to have the fastest charging times. But it landed in seventh place on the list of fastest-charging EVs.
The Tesla Model 3 Dual Motor model gained 130 miles of range after 15 minutes of charging. After 30 minutes it was up to 201 miles and made it to 239 miles in 45 minutes. After an hour it had 255 miles of range.
It took 31 minutes to replenish its range from five to 80%. It also took 66 minutes to recharge from five to 100%. So, charging time is greatly reduced with the Ioniq 6 against the Tesla Model 3.
Other vehicles that charge faster than the Model 3 include the Kia EV6 Wind AWD, the Lucid Air Grand Touring Performance model, the Hyundai Ioniq 6 Long Range AWD model, the Lucid Air Pure AWD model, and the Lucid Air Touring EV.
The Hyundai Ioniq 6 actually beat the Tesla Model 3 on the list of fastest-charging EVs twice! The BMW I7 XDrive 60 had the slowest charging times on the list. But slower EVs like the Ford Mustang Mac-E didn’t even make it.
Also, the Ioniq 6 has an EPA-estimated range of up to 361 miles and the Tesla Model 3 has up to 358 miles of range.
