With the release of the Hyundai Ioniq 6, the new all-electric sedan in the Ioniq lineup, there’s been a lot of excitement. The Ioniq 6 offers an amazing charge range, styling, and a luxurious interior. Though the official pricing has yet to come to light, it’s fair to assume that it’ll come in substantially cheaper than luxury EV competitors. That begs the question; how does it stack up against the 2023 Audi E-Tron GT?

Power and performance specs

The Audi E-Tron GT shares the same platform as the Porsche Taycan. In a recent comparison between the Taycan and the Ioniq 6, we found that the specs were not as far off as one might think. However, the E-Tron GT doesn’t have the same sort of “budget-friendly-ish” offering that the base model Taycan offers. Instead, the E-Tron has a performance spirit across its entire lineup.

Starting off with the Hyundai Ioniq 6, as is standard with many EV platforms, it’s available in either rear-wheel drive or all-wheel drive format. Hyundai says that the Ioniq 6 will come with 320 horsepower in its top trim. On the opposite side of this comparison, the Audi E-Tron GT is available only in all-wheel drive layouts, as is to be expected thanks to Audi’s historic use of its Quattro AWD system. The E-Tron GT is available with up to 627 horsepower in its potent RS format, with power starting at 522 with the base model, according to Car and Driver.

As one might imagine, all of that extra power adds up to a substantial gap between the performance of these two EVs. The Hyundai Ioniq 6 certainly isn’t slow with its zero to 60 sprint in 5.1 seconds. However, it looks more like a turtle than an EV in comparison to the Audi’s zero to 60 time. It can complete that run in as little as 2.9 seconds.

In the grand scheme of things, it only makes sense that the Audi dominates in the performance department. However, things start looking up for the Hyundai when the EV side of things starts getting brought to the table.

Ioniq 6 crushes the Audi in terms of driving range

Car and Driver managed to squeeze an extremely impressive 240 miles of range out of the RS E-Tron GT. What makes it exceptionally impressive is the fact that the EPA estimated range is 230 miles. So, well done, Audi, you’ve beat the estimates!

Still, the Audi starts to show its more-performance-than-economical side of things in comparison to the Ioniq 6. The Ioniq’s 77-kilowatt-hour battery pack is quite a bit smaller than the Audi’s 85-kilowatt-hour offering. However, the Ioniq’s efficient use of said battery manages an estimated range of over 380 miles on a single charge.

Both vehicles are capable of fast charging, too. The Hyundai Ioniq 6 is said to be able to charge from 10 percent to 80 percent in as little as 18 minutes. Similarly, the Audi can charge from five percent to 80 percent in just 23 minutes.

Ultimately, these two EVs are for very different customers. However, if you’re on the fence about the Audi E-Tron and you’re considering something with a bit more charge range, you may want to wait out the Ioniq 6. With estimated prices under $50,000, it’s hard not to leave it up to consideration!
