Hyundai Makes Some of the Safest SUVs You Can’t Ignore
Hyundai has a lot going for it right now. It was recently named one of the most reliable carmakers and as the ‘Best SUV Brand’ by U.S. News. This Korean brand gives you a lot to choose from, but what are the safest Hyundai SUVs?
2020 Hyundai Kona
Overall, Hyundai’s SUVs earned great crash test safety ratings from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. Like the other Hyundai models on this list, the 2020 Kona is one of the IIHS’ Top Safety Picks and comes with many active safety features. The Top Safety Pick honor reflects a vehicle’s ability to protect passengers in the event of a crash.
The Kona is one of Hyundai’s smallest SUVs, and it competes with the likes of the Nissan Kicks and Mazda CX-30. Critics have praised the Kona for its zippy engine options and classy interior. Base models have a 147-hp, 2.0-liter four-cylinder and a six-speed automatic. Upper-level trims get a turbocharged 1.6-liter four-cylinder that makes 175-hp. Konas also come with desirable tech, including smartphone integration apps and active safety features such as forward-collision warning.
2020 Hyundai Tucson
The 2020 Tucson is another one of the safest Hyundai SUVs. Compared to the Kona, the Tucson is slightly larger and more of a relaxed ride. The Tucson is standard with 161-hp, 2.0-liter four-cylinder. This engine isn’t the most entertaining, and it can feel underpowered. For these reasons, most reviewers recommend going with Tucson’s available 181-hp, 2.4-liter four-cylinder.
Both of the Tucson’s engines come with a six-speed automatic. The Tucson has an EPA rating of up to 25 mpg overall, which is decent for the compact SUV class. On the inside, the Tucson has comfortable seats for five and plenty of tech to make driving more fun, including Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity apps.
2020 Hyundai Venue
Hyundai introduced the Venue as an all-new model for 2020. The Venue also competes in the same class as the Kona. There’s only one engine available for the Venue, and it’s a 121-hp, 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine. You have the choice between a six-speed manual or a continuously variable automatic.
One of the Venue’s best aspects is its fuel economy; it has an EPA rating of a combined 32 mpg. The main drawback to this SUV is that it isn’t very agile, and some might find that its engine gets too noisy. The Venue can seat up to five and also comes with lots of in-car techs.
Hyundai Palisade
Furthermore, the 2020 Palisade has emerged as one of the safest Hyundai SUVs in a short period. All Palisades come with a long list of driver’s assistance features, including forward automatic emergency braking and rear occupant alert. The Palisade’s focus on safety and roomy cabin makes it one of the best family-friendly options.
The Palisade has the same 291-hp 3.8-liter V6 that the Kia Telluride does. A smooth eight-speed automatic is also standard. The Palisade can seat up to eight people and offers luxurious amenities, including quilted leather upholstery.
Hyundai Santa Fe
The 2020 Santa Fe gets a lot of love too. It shines for its fuel economy, comfort, and the user-friendly tech Hyundai is known for. There are two engines for the Santa Fe. Base models get a 185-hp 2.4-liter four-cylinder, and there’s the optional turbo-four that produces 235-hp. You’ll want the optional one for a quicker driving experience.
The Santa Fe can accommodate five passengers. Furthermore, it’s among Hyundai’s most versatile vehicles. It’s a worthy choice for new and experienced drivers alike.
