The Hyundai Santa Fe Has 1 Thing the Kia Telluride Needs
While the Kia Telluride is an excellent, and well-rounded SUV, the 2024 Hyundai Santa Fe might offer something better for families. The redesigned Kia Telluride is right around the corner, but the new Hyundai Santa Fe already has a hybrid engine.
Does the Kia Telluride have a hybrid engine?
No, the Kia Telluride doesn’t have a hybrid engine. It has a stout 3.8-liter V6 engine with 291 hp and 262 lb-ft of torque.
This is an excellent amount of standard power but could be too thirsty for families looking to save at the fuel pump.
The 2024 Telluride gets an EPA-estimated 18 mpg in the city and up to 24 mph on the highway. Without AWD, it can get up to 20 mpg in the city and up to 26 mpg on the highway.
The 2024 Hyundai Santa Fe Hybrid uses a turbocharged 1.6-liter inline-four engine that’s paired with an electric motor to generate 232 hp and 271 lb-ft of torque. It gets an EPA-estimated 35 mpg in the city and up to 34 mpg on the highway.
But the Telluride can tow up to 5,500 lbs while the Santa Fe Hybrid maxes out at 3,500 lbs. Also, saving gas with the Santa Fe means giving up some cargo space.
The Telluride provides up to 21 cubic feet of cargo space behind the third row, up to 46 cubes behind the second row, and 87 cubes total.
With the Santa Fe, you get up to 14.6 cubic feet behind the third row, up to 40.5 cubes behind the second row, and up to 79.6 cubes overall.
But your family will still have room to stretch out. The Santa Fe has more passenger space in the first and second rows of the Telluride and almost the same amount of third-row room.
Also, I found that the Santa Fe is a bit more athletic and comfortable than the Telluride. Plus, the third-row seats can recline.
But rumors suggest that the 2025 Kia Telluride hybrid is on the way, so it might be worth the wait if you need more space. Stay tuned for updates.
