Does Hyundai offer America’s best warranty?

Hyundai claims it has America’s best warranty. And many industry professionals agree. The five-year/60,000-mile new vehicle limited warranty is one of the most extensive bumper-to-bumper plans. And the 10-year/ 100,000-mile powertrain warranty is among the longest. Every new Hyundai vehicle gets this blanket warranty coverage. It’s one reason new buyers switch to the brand.

What Hyundai’s bumper-to-bumper covers

Hyundai’s five-year or 60,000-mile bumper-to-bumper warranty covers a few critical components, MotorTrend reports. Any repairs or replacements of manufactured parts that Hyundai deems defective are covered. They include factory material components and production line workmanship. It also usually applies to vehicles under normal wear-and-tear. And it encompasses concerns with the interior, chassis, exterior, tech, and electronic components.

Exterior paint falls under a three-year or 36,000-mile warranty, but aftermarket customizations don’t qualify. This warranty is better than those from other brands, including General Motors, which offers three years or 36,000-mile limited warranty coverage.

Why the powertrain warranty is so important

A new vehicle’s powertrain includes the engine block, cylinder head, pumps, bearings, gears, and shafts. When any of these parts fail or malfunction, they represent some of the most expensive repairs. Hyundai offers warranty coverage for 10 years or 100,000 miles, whichever occurs first, to protect new vehicle owners from these costly failures. And if an owner sells or trades a Hyundai vehicle before these benchmarks, the new owner will even get five years or 60,000 miles of warranty coverage. 

Hyundai extends the 10-year/100,000-mile powertrain warranty to its hybrid and electric vehicles, too. Their powertrains include electric motors, charging hardware, and batteries. Hyundai says it designs its batteries not to degrade beyond 70 percent of the original capacity during this time. Because hybrid, plug-in hybrid, and all-electric vehicles are so new, this warranty protection is huge for the industry.

Rust protection warranty? Yes, please!

Hyundai also offers an anti-perforation Warranty. The automaker offers provisions to protect against rust holes in the vehicle’s body sheet metal. This warranty extends for seven years, without mileage limits, Motor1 reports.

To qualify for warranty coverage, the rust hole must result from workmanship defects. Surface and cosmetic corrosion problems are covered for three years or 36,000 miles. 

Hyundai’s anti-perforation warranty offers better protection than even Toyota’s 60-month plan for similar corrosion scenarios.

Roadside assistance and complimentary maintenance

Hyundai makes it safer to drive with its roadside assistance and complimentary maintenance clauses under the standard roster of warranty protection. Roadside assistance is available for 60 months and geographically applies to any roadway in all 50 U.S. states and Canada. Flat tires, cabin-locked keys, and dead batteries mean an authorized technician will arrive for assistance. 

And if you experience a problem more than 150 miles from home, lodging and transportation might also qualify for warranty reimbursement. This, along with the complimentary maintenance, covering oil changes and tire rotations for three years or 36,000 miles, makes Hyundai’s warranty one of the best.

Worrying about engine problems or rust holes probably isn’t top-of-mind when you’re buying a new car. That’s OK because it seems like Hyundai has thought of everything and has you covered with its extensive warranty.
