Ignoring This Nissan Frontier Feature for the Tacoma Feels Wrong
Look, it’s time to circle back to the Nissan Frontier. We understand that the 2024 Toyota Tacoma is new and exciting, but the Frontier shouldn’t be in its shadow. One new Tacoma feature that has fans drooling is already available with the 2023 Nissan Frontier!
Does the 2023 Nissan Frontier have a two-door cab?
Yes, you can get the 2023 Nissan Frontier with two doors. The King Cab is an extended cab with only two doors, and the Crew Cab has four doors. However, you may have missed this because people are obsessed with the new Toyota Tacoma XtraCab.
The XtraCab is an extended cab with two doors, and it’s available on a few different trims, like the PreRunner model. But the prices for the Tacoma aren’t out, and the order banks haven’t opened.
So, you could be waiting for months on your two-door Tacoma to arrive, but the two-door Frontier is available right now!
Also, the 2024 Toyota Tacoma is getting credit for bringing this old-school feature back, but it’s been around with the Frontier for a while. With all due respect, it’s time to give the Frontier credit for something that should have been in the spotlight back when it was remodeled in 2022.
However, rumors suggest that you can delete the rear seat in the two-door Tacoma to maximize space. That sounds like an epic option for fleets and work trucks. Also, the Tacoma doesn’t have half doors that also open.
How much power does the 2023 Frontier have?
The 2023 Nissan Frontier has a standard 3.8-liter V6 engine with 310 hp and 281 lb-ft of torque. It’s the sole engine option and provides a solid amount of power, especially for a two-door truck. It’s paired with a nine-speed automatic transmission.
The 2024 Tacoma starts with the standard 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine with 228 hp and 243 lb-ft of torque. This option is available with the entry-level SR truck and has less standard power than the Frontier.
However, with the manual six-speed transmission, the engine generates 270 hp and 310 lb-ft of torque. On higher trim levels, it cranks out 278 hp and 317 lb-ft of torque.
The i-Force Max hybrid powertrain pairs the engine with an electric motor and a battery pack to generate 326 hp and 465 lb-ft of torque. So you can pay more to gain extra power with the Tacoma.
We know that the Frontier gets an EPA-estimated 18 mpg in the city and up to 24 mpg on the highway. We got about 19.6 mpg during our week with the Pro-4X. Also, we’re waiting on official EPA stings for the new Tacoma.
You can tow up to 6,720 lbs and carry a payload of up to 1,697 lbs with the 2023 Frontier. The 2024 Tacoma can tow up to 6,500 lbs and carry a payload of up to 1,709 lbs.
Does the Frontier have a nice interior?
The 2023 Nissan Frontier features an upscale and spacious interior. It feels modern and massive compared to the 2023 Tacoma. However, the 2024 model is a little bigger.
It starts with an 8.0-inch touchscreen, cloth upholstery, and a six-speaker audio system. But you can upgrade to premium leather upholstery with vibrant accent stitching, wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, a sunroof, a wireless charging pad, and a premium Fender audio system.
We’re waiting for the official 2024 Tacoma specs to see what comes with each trim level. Also, we are waiting for pricing. But the Nissan Frontier already has the two-door setup that Tacoma fans are excited about.
Plus, the Frontier has more standard power. It could have more space, a lower price, and more value as well. Stay tuned for the latest updates.
