One of the most recognizable SUVs on the market is the Ford Bronco, which is still fairly new to the lineup. Despite its icon status, this model’s sales dipped in the second quarter, and was even outsold by one of its sister SUVs. Which version beat it out, and how do the two models compare as far as performance goes?

Which Ford SUV is outselling the Bronco?

When you look at the Q2 sales for this year, the Bronco is down 16.37% in sales, having only 26,150 units sold. The Sport version is up 12.94%, though, having 33,272 units sold in the same period, according to the Ford Authority website.

The midsize SUV model that outsold the brand’s most popular vehicle in the segment is the Edge. It had a sales increase of 4.64%, having sold 26,202 vehicles during the second quarter.

Does that mean that the 2023 Ford Bronco sales are dwindling? Actually no, because if you look at the year-to-date sales, it’s leading the Edge by a fair amount. So far this year Ford has sold 58,580 Bronco SUVs, making it an increase of 6.82% over last year.

Meanwhile, the Edge decreased in YTD sales by 9.66%, which means only 46,484 of these vehicles sold, which is 4,969 less than last year.

What Ford offers on the Bronco as far as performance and storage goes

The 2023 Ford Bronco comes with three engine choices. The first one is the 2.3-liter four-cylinder, which produces 300 hp and 325 lb-ft of torque. Ford pairs a seven-speed shiftable automatic with it. With this version, you can get around 20 mpg combined, according to Edmunds

On some trims, you can get a 2.7-liter V6, which generates 330 hp and 415 lb-ft. Paired with this engine is a 10-speed shiftable automatic transmission. The highest trim offers a 3.0-liter V6. With this model, you can get around 15 mpg combined.

When it comes to storage, the Bronco has 22.4 cu-ft of cargo space behind the rear seats of the vehicle. If you fold them down, you can get up to 52.3 cu-ft of storage in total. However, the four-door option gives you a smaller amount of space to work with and it’s a little harder to access the cargo area on the soft top model.

How does the Ford Edge compare?

Ford offers two engine options on the Edge model. First, you get the 2.0-liter four-cylinder producing 250 hp and 280 lb-ft of torque, which is standard. Paired with this model is an eight-speed automatic. As for fuel economy, this version will get you 23 mpg combined.

You can upgrade to the 2.7-liter V6 model, which will generate 335 hp and 380 lb-ft of torque. A seven-speed shiftable automatic transmission is paired with this unit. When it comes to fuel efficiency, you can expect to get 2 mpg less (combined) than the 2.3 version.

When you compare storage with the Bronco, the 2023 Ford Edge offers quite a bit more space for hauling your everyday items. Behind the rear seats, there are 39.2 cu-ft of storage. If you fold down the last row, you can get up to 73.4 cubic-ft of space.

The Ford Bronco may be slowing down with its sales, falling behind the Edge, but don’t discount it yet. Because, its year-to-date sales are still pretty strong, making it pull ahead of Ford’s other SUV. The second half of the year should be pretty interesting for both models.
