The Ineos Grenadier Truck Made a Surprise Appearance
The Ineos Grenadier is quite an interesting vehicle being offered by the British chemical company, Ineos. It is rugged, looks old-school, and is powered by BMW. And recently, spy shots were revealed of a pickup truck variant of the Grenadier. So, if you’ve been waiting on a Grenadier truck, it could be here soon.
Will the Ineos Grenadier be sold in the USA?
As it stands, it looks like Ineos hopes to sell this truck in North America. But currently, if you live in the States, you can’t get one. When compared to the SUV version, the Grenadier truck has a longer wheelbase of 127 inches. And, of course, it has a pickup truck bed.
The goal of this truck is to be an old-school off-road vehicle. And although its powertrain is courtesy of BMW, it looks like it does a fairly good job of feeling and looking vintage. It’s not hard to see that the Ineos Grenadier is hoping to evoke the emotional experience of the Land Rover Defenders of yesteryear.
A Grenadier truck is in the works
When Ineos first revealed the Grenadier SUV, it also teased a pickup truck version. The Grenadier will likely become available in the United States by the end of 2023, but introducing a new car in this country is no easy task. Things like emissions regulations need to be met. And some folks are wary of buying a vehicle from an unknown brand.
Even if the Grenadier is not popular, it is cool to see a brand building a vehicle like this. It utilizes body-on-frame construction, the option for front, rear, and center locking differentials, and a two-speed transfer case. This is clearly a truck made for handling tough situations.
Unfortunately, the Grenadier truck will not come cheap. According to Car and Driver, the SUV version has a cost starting around 75K. But for that price, you get something that is fairly unique. If you are a fan of old Land Rover Defenders, you will likely be a fan of what Ineos has done with the Grenadier.
Are trucks good for off-roading?
If you want an off-road vehicle, a truck can be a good bet. Because most pickups use body-on-frame construction, they are seen as more rugged and capable. Plus, brands invest heavily in making off-road truck trims. Think about the Toyota Tacoma TRD Pro or Ford F-150 Raptor; those trucks come from the factory ready for trail use.
On paper, it looks like the Ineos Grenadier truck will take things to the next level. You can see spy shots of it over on Motor Authority if you’d like. Although, I do have to wonder about the reliability and affordability of using a BMW powertrain. But folks with this kind of budget likely have the money to keep their truck running properly.
More information about the Ineos Grenadier in the United States is expected to come at some point this year. Apparently, some folks in Europe have already been taking delivery of the Grenadier. So hopefully, we get more news sooner rather than later about this off-road truck.
