Infiniti Continues Its 2023 Winning Streak
Infiniti is the luxury arm of Nissan, and although the company is not the most popular luxury car brand, it’s still making a name for itself in the luxury car market. In fact, Infiniti’s sales numbers are not only growing, but they’re also growing at a fast pace, and that may help the Japanese luxury automaker compete with the bigger names. Here’s a look at just how Infiniti is continuing its winning streak in 2023.
Infiniti is having a great year, especially compared to others
Nissan recently updated the company’s sales numbers for the year, and overall, the Japanese automaker is doing well. In the first half of the year, Nissan has sold a combined 480,000 units. That’s a big increase from last year. In the first half of 2022, the company sold a combined 384,000 units. This means that Nissan has sold nearly 100,000 more units compared to last year. That’s a 25% increase in sales year-over-year.
Since Infiniti is a luxury brand while the Nissan division builds affordable passenger cars, it’s not surprising that the Nissan division is responsible for the majority of those sales. In the first half of the year, the Nissan division sold about 448,000 units. That’s much more than the 362,000 units that it sold in the first half of 2022. That said, it only represents a 23.6% increase in sales.
That percentage growth is smaller than what Infiniti saw. In the first half of the year, Infiniti sold 32,286 units. That’s over 10,000 more units than the company sold in the first half of 2022, as Infiniti only moved 21,805 units in that time span. As a percentage, Infiniti saw a 48.1% growth in sales year-over-year, and that’s better than a lot of companies.
Infiniti’s sales have been growing during the year as well
What’s also impressive about Infiniti’s sales numbers in 2023 is the fact that its sales numbers have been growing as the year’s gone on. The Japanese luxury automaker started the year off strong as it sold 15,757 units in the first quarter. That’s compared to the 11,246 units that the company sold in the first quarter of 2022. That jump in sales represents a 40% increase year-over-year.
This trend continued with the second quarter of the year. In the second quarter of the year, Infiniti sold 16,529 units, which is a few hundred units more than it sold in the first quarter. However, it’s nearly 6,000 more units than the company sold in the second quarter of 2022. This means that Infiniti saw a 56.5% increase in second-quarter sales compared to last year.
These Infiniti models are driving the Japanese luxury automaker’s growth
Overall, Infiniti’s SUVs represent the bulk of the company’s sales. This isn’t a surprise since Infiniti recently discontinued the Q60, which was one of the two sedans that the luxury automaker offered. The Q50 is the other sedan, and combined, Infiniti’s sedan segment has sold 3,917 units in the first half of 2023. That’s a 24% decline from last year.
Infiniti’s SUVs picked up the slack, and this was especially true for the company’s most popular options. The QX60 was the company’s best-selling option in the first half of 2022, and it sold just under 5,800 units then. In the first half 2023 though, it’s sold 14,870 units. That means that its sales numbers have grown by over 9,000 units year-over-year, which represents a massive 157% increase in sales.
The QX80, which is the largest option in Infiniti’s lineup, is also doing well. It sold just over 6,100 units so far this year. That’s an almost 114% increase from last year. On top of that, it’s now the second best-selling Infiniti vehicle.
