It’s Wednesday and the rumor mill is certainly churning. According to an unnamed inside source, while production of the hotly anticipated 2021 Ford Bronco has yet to begin, the Blue Oval is already hard at work on the 2022 Ford Bronco. But how will the 2022 Ford Bronco differ from the 2021 model? Well, according to this insider, the 2022 Ford Bronco will see the addition of a Heritage Edition Ford Bronco

The Ford Bronco will reportedly add a Heritage Edition trim for 2022 models

Without naming names or citing sources, an admin at the Bronco6G forum reported on Monday that Ford is adding a Heritage Edition trim to the Ford Bronco’s lineup. Unfortunately, the Ford Bronco Heritage Edition won’t be available until 2022. Kind of a long wait, huh?

According to this particular insider, the Ford Bronco Heritage Edition will be available for both the two- and four-door Bronco models. For Bronco buyers, that’s pretty good news. Should the Bronco Heritage Edition actually make its way to dealerships, of course. Unfortunately, those are the only details this insider had to share with the Bronco6G forum.

But what decade will the Heritage Edition be inspired by?

Seeing as we don’t know all that much about the 2022 Ford Bronco Heritage Edition just yet, it’s hard to surmise what decade the Heritage Edition trim level will harken back to. But, it’s pretty easy to throw out some educated guesses. Odds are, the Heritage Edition will take styling clues from year’s past, giving the Ford Bronco an even more retro look.

According to Autoblog, that might point to a ’60s themed Ford Bronco. Autoblog added that Ford could end up bringing back some of the color combinations it offered during the ‘60s. The Heritage Edition could also end up benefitting from some edition-specific badges and retro-styled wheels.

But, as Autoblog reports, a Heritage Edition Bronco doesn’t necessarily mean that we’re getting a ‘60’s themed Bronco. Instead, we could end up seeing a ‘70’s themed Bronco or even an ‘80’s inspired model. Don’t forget that the last-generation Bronco was released in 1991 too. So, who knows, we could even see an OJ Simpson themed Ford Bronco. (But probably not.)

The 2021 Ford Bronco has been plagued by delays

Though, let’s not get ahead of ourselves here. While it’s certainly exciting to think about a Heritage Edition Ford Bronco, it’s worth keeping in mind that the 2021 Ford Bronco hasn’t even gone into production yet. In fact, the 2021 model has been faced with numerous delays, all of which have left Ford Bronco buyers pretty frustrated.

In early December, news came out that production of the 2021 Ford Bronco would be delayed due to coronavirus-related supplier issues. Then, late last month, Car and Driver reported that Bronco production would begin on May 3. At the time, a Ford spokesperson confirmed the news but neglected to specify when it would go into production, just that production would begin in the spring.

In the end, if you want a new Ford Bronco, you’re going to have to wait a while. Especially if you find yourself wanting after a 2022 Ford Bronco Heritage Edition.
