Crazy things are happening in the world right now, but not all of it is bad. An innocent video on Tik-Tok of a man on a skateboard riding down the street drinking Ocean Spray with Fleetwood Mac’s Dreams as the backdrop. He posts it on the internet. Then, it explodes. What? For some reason, this serene self-video posted on Tik-Tok went crazy. Now, this unlikely Tik-Tok star gets a free Nissan truck from Ocean Spray. Huh?

When Ocean Spray executives saw it they made a TV commercial from it

When Ocean Spray executives saw it they made a TV commercial from it which ran during the baseball playoffs last week. Soon, knockoffs of it were flooding the internet.

Sales of the 1977 Fleetwood Mac song shot up to No. 1 on iTunes. Then, Mick Fleetwood takes notice and posts his own version of the video. Now, Ocean Spray has awarded the Tik-Tok poster and internet star a brand new cranberry red Nissan Frontier truck. So, what’s this all about?

As he skated to work he stuck his phone on a selfie stick and shot a video

The poster is Nathan Apodaca from Idaho Falls, Idaho. He was on his way to work when his car broke down. “My car shuts off from time to time and it shut off down the highway,” he told CNN. “I didn’t want to wait to flag someone down to get a jump, so I grabbed my juice and grabbed my board.” As he skated to work he stuck his phone on a selfie stick and shot a video of himself serenely rolling down the road.

When he had time he added the Dreams background and posted it on Tik-Tok. As the internet can do it went viral and made Apodaca an instant star. And it was marketing gold for Ocean Spray. The Massachusetts company took notice and decided to pay Apodaca a visit with gifts in tow, literally.

Ocean Spray representatives surprised him with a new cranberry red Nissan Frontier

Ocean Spray representatives surprised him at home with a new cranberry red Nissan Frontier pickup with the bed full of Ocean Spray cran-raspberry juice. “I hear a knock so I get up and open the door,” Apodaca says. “I poke my head around the corner and then there’s a camera behind my daughter and a camera behind that cameraman. I’m like what the heck is going on? They told me it was mine and I still didn’t believe it.”

“This is from Ocean Spray to you,” the spokesman told Apodaca. “Thanks for keeping it positive-the truck is yours and the Ocean Spray is yours.” You can hear Apodaca in the video repeating “no way, no way” as Ocean Spray’s free truck explanation sinks in. Soon after Apodaca made another Tik-Tok video driving away in the truck thanking everyone.

Ocean Spray says Apodaca’s post has ignited a whole new marketing campaign

Around that same time, Ocean Spray CEO Tom Hayes made his own version of Apodaca’s viral video. Ocean Spray says Apodaca’s post has ignited a whole new marketing campaign. We haven’t seen the last of these casual Ocean Spray videos nor have we seen the last of Apodaca promoting Ocean Spray juice.

A simple video posting with no pretense or intended message is the feel-good story of 2020 so far. We love that it is organic and authentic. Obviously, so does Ocean Spray and Nissan. Like we said crazy things are happening in the world right now. It looks as though everyone needed a feel-good story like this.
