Genesis is the luxury brand for Hyundai. As a result, many models from both automakers are very similar. Two examples are the 2023 Hyundai Palisade and the 2023 Genesis GV80 SUVs. They’re close in size, styling, and several other things. However, one is far more expensive than the other. Is the 2023 Genesis GV80 worth $17,000 more than the Hyundai Palisade?

Sharing a platform is one thing, but not something most people will notice. However, they will notice similar dimensions, among other things. According to Edmunds, the Hyundai Palisade and Genesis GV80 both measure roughly 77.8-inches wide without mirrors. Similarly, the length and height of the two SUVs are very close. The Palisade measures 196.7-inches long and 68.9-inches high. Alternatively, the GV80 is 194.7-inches long and 67.5-inches high.

Furthermore, the luxurious 2023 Genesis GV80 dominates the Hyundai SUV regarding cargo capacity. The GV80 provides 34.9 cubic feet of space with all seats in place. However, the Palisade only offers 18 cubic feet. This significant difference is just one thing that sets the luxurious interior of the Genesis SUV apart from its non-luxury corporate cousin.

How do the base engines compare?

First, the 2023 Genesis GV80 luxury SUV has a turbocharged 2.5-liter four-cylinder. That sounds feeble compared to the base engine for the Palisade. Every version of the Hyundai SUV uses the same 3.8-liter V6 engine. However, in terms of horsepower and torque, the four-cylinder wins thanks to it being turbocharged.

Base models of the Genesis GV80 produce 375 horsepower and 391 lb-ft of torque. Even with a V6, the 2023 Hyundai Palisade only makes 291 horsepower and 262 lb-ft of torque. Additionally, the GV80 has an optional engine available with any trim. It’s a turbocharged 3.5-liter V6 capable of producing 375 hp and 391 lb-ft, a big step above both models’ base options.

Which has better standard equipment?

After the engine, the features and technology included with a vehicle make it more luxurious. For the 2023 Genesis GV80, it’s quite a lot. For example, LED exterior lighting, a power liftgate, simulated leather upholstery, heated front seats, a navigation system, a 14.5-inch touchscreen, a 12-speaker sound system, Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, and parking sensors. In addition, driver aids like adaptive cruise control, forward collision mitigation, lane-keeping assist, and blind-spot monitor with rear cross-traffic alert are standard.

Alternatively, the non-luxury 2023 Hyundai Palisade is similarly equipped. For roughly $17,000 less, the Palisade has most of the same features. For example, LED headlights, a digital key, a 12.3-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, navigation, USB ports, adaptive cruise control, forward collision mitigation, lane-keeping assist, and blind-spot monitor with rear cross-traffic alert. Things like heated seats require at least the SEL trim, which is an advantage of the GV80 base model.

How does the most expensive Palisade compare?

Finally, the most costly version of the Hyundai SUV is the Palisade Calligraphy. Starting at $50,495, it is still less expensive than the base model of the 2023 Genesis GV80. As a result, we’d recommend buying the tricked-out Palisade over the most basic GV80. It comes with everything found in lower trims, plus a massaging driver’s seat, Smart Parking Assist, rear parking collision avoidance, faux suede headliner, premium leather upholstery, customizable interior ambient lighting, second-row wing-out headrests, and more.

Since the Palisade Calligraphy is better equipped than cheaper GV80 models, it’s an easy decision. If we compare base models, the luxurious Genesis SUV is the clear winner. However, taking similarly priced versions of the two offerings equates to a Hyundai victory. Moreover, if budget isn’t an issue, the most costly 2023 Genesis GV80 models will surely win in terms of luxuriousness.
