Most vehicles get some changes for each and every model year. However, some models get a complete redesign, offering a new version under the same name. Is the 2023 Volkswagen Atlas redesigned? What’s new for the 2023 Volkswagen Atlas?

Cars.com says a few things have changed for the 2023 Volkswagen Atlas. First, the 10.25-inch Digital Cockpit Pro gauge cluster is now standard on every trim other than the base SE model. Additionally, the automaker dropped the S from the lineup this year, reducing the number of trim levels from six to five. The rest of the exterior and interior remains the same as the 2022 model year. Unfortunately, with a recent redesign just a few years ago, the new Atlas wasn’t due for significant changes.

That includes bringing back the same two engines for the lineup. Once again, the base Atlas engine is a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder capable of producing up to 235 horsepower. Additionally, an optional V6 making 276 horsepower is available. The best fuel economy comes from the base engine with front-wheel drive, which averages 23 combined mpg, reduced to 22 mpg with all-wheel drive. The V6 offers 20 mpg combined across the board regardless of the drivetrain.

How much does a 2023 Volkswagen Atlas cost?

One of the essential parts of buying a vehicle is the price. For the new model year, the Atlas lost a trim level. As a result, the price of each trim changed just a little bit. First, the base Atlas SE model costs $36,445, including destination charges. To add all-wheel drive, it’ll cost you $1,900 for any model that doesn’t come with it standard. Next, the SE with Technology is $40,615, which adds a lot of value for the slight boost in price.

Following the SE with Technology is the 2023 Volkswagen Atlas SEL, which Cars.com calls “luxury-loaded.” It has standard AWD and starts at just $46,630. Finally, the range-topping models are AWD only, called SEL R-Line Black and SEL Premium R-Line. The former starts at $50,330 and the latter at $53,635. Cars.com says the SEL Premium R-Line is more comfort-focused, while the Black model gains some unique design cues not found in other versions of the Volkswagen SUV.

When was the Atlas redesigned?

The Volkswagen Atlas SUV received a full redesign for the 2021 model year. As a result, it’s unlikely we will see another significant redesign for a few more years at least. However, the model may get a light refresh sometime soon. Unfortunately, that is not happening for the 2023 model year, which remains mostly the same. If you were hoping for big changes with the next Atlas, keep waiting because it isn’t happening.
