Lexus has a reputation for vehicles with upscale luxury and watch-like reliability. The LC 500 coupe/convertible adds sleek style to the equation with its racy looks and aerodynamic detailing. And the top-trim LC 500 Inspiration model takes that formula to the max.

Most seasoned car shoppers understand that models come with different trim levels, offering different options and price levels for both an entry-level shopper and a big spender. However, does the high price of a model’s top trim justify its price?

Let’s ponder that question as we go over the 2024 Lexus LC and its top Convertible Inspiration Series trim level, which has a starting MSRP of over $120,000.

2024 Lexus LC 500: trims, features, pricing

With its sharp bodywork and high-tech powertrains, the LC 500 adds a little excitement to the Lexus lineup. Available in coupe and convertible configurations, this luxury grand tourer is a versatile machine for comfortable travel. Here are the details.

The 2024 Lexus LC 500 comes in three trims (pricing plus destination):

• LC 500 Coupe: $97,700

• LC 500h Hybrid: $101,000

LC 500 Convertible: $105,200

The Lexus LC 500 Coupe and Convertible use a brawny 5.0-liter V8 with 471 hp. That’s routed through a 10-speed auto to the rear wheels, for smooth shifts and classic dynamics. The coupe’s fuel economy is 16/24/19 MPG city/highway/combined, while the convertible obtains 15/25/18 MPG.

The hybrid LC 500h blends a 3.5-liter V6 with dual electric motors, with a combined output of 354 hp. A CVT mimics an automatic transmission’s seamless shifts. But where the LC500h stands out is fuel economy, where it has superb efficiency of 26/33/29 MPG city/highway/combined.

Every LC 500 interior has Lexus’ typical top-end materials and meticulous workmanship, creating an environment of bespoke luxury. Features like handcrafted leather upholstery, 12-speaker premium audio, and magnesium paddle shifters create an atmosphere on par with anything.

But the top-of-the-line LC 500 Inspiration Coupe ($116,700 plus destination) and Convertible ($121,900 plus destination) are even better. Bespoke detailing inside and out creates a grand tourer with enhanced performance and comfort. And with only 125 units available in North America, the Inspiration trim is an exclusive ride.

Exterior-wise, the LC 500 Inspiration uses Polar Surge Satin paint, for a cool, sleek vibe. Up-front, racy aerodynamic canards limit lift, and on the coupe, a carbon-fiber rear wing creates downforce. Convertibles add a blue fabric top.

Inside, the Deep Blue interior brings a low-key ambiance.

The Inspiration series also brings enhancements like a Torsen limited-slip differential, carbon fiber roof (coupe), additional underfloor bracing (coupe), and rear performance dampers.

2024 Lexus LC convertible: how the competition compares

For those in the market for a performance coupe, there are plenty of worthy picks. Let’s see how the Lexus LC 500 compares to the competition.

The Audi R8 ($158,600 plus destination) has supercar looks and performance while remaining comfortable enough for everyday driving. Its mid-engine layout and exotic V10 offer handling and speed to compete with the best. The R8 Spyder ($171,000 plus destination) adds open-air motoring. The interior features Audi’s usual modern, elegant design.

From the same mold as the LC 500, the BMW 8-Series ($90,800 plus destination) is a grand tourer with sports car dynamics. Long and lean styling gives it an athletic appearance, and BMW’s excellent turbo powerplants provide exhilarating performance.

The Jaguar F-Type Coupe ($77,900 plus destination) and Convertible ($79,900 plus destination) bring classic British style and an optional 575 hp supercharged V8. The Jaguar is a nice balance of GT and pure sports car.

The Porsche 911 Carrera brings track-ready performance, iconic style, and long-distance comfort. Its turbo flat-six engine makes all the right sounds, and real sports car hardware—like monoblock calipers and dual-clutch transmission—make track days a breeze. Add in an interior that’s part race car, part luxury car, and you’ve got a package that’s hard to resist.

Is the Lexus LC 500 Convertible Inspiration worth the price? If it were our money, no. For those after a luxury grand tourer with sporty performance and rare exclusivity, maybe. For us, the Porsche 911 Carrera is the best combination of world-class dynamics, classic style, and everyday comfort.
