The Lincoln Navigator is a luxury SUV with a rugged build and long-range comfort. With body-on-frame construction, it has the brawn of a pickup truck. But its upscale amenities make every ride a pleasant experience. The 2024 Navigator Black Label L takes that even further, with top-of-the-line interior materials, the latest tech, and exterior highlights.

Most seasoned car shoppers understand that models come with different trim levels, offering different options and price levels for both an entry-level shopper and a big spender. However, does the high price of a model’s top trim justify its price? Let’s ponder that question as we go over the 2024 Lincoln Navigator and its top Black Label L trim level, which has a starting MSRP of over $110,000.

2024 Lincoln Navigator: trims, features, pricing

The Ford Expedition-based Lincoln Navigator is best suited to hauling people and gear, with copious room and a strong powerplant. Drivers can buy one in either standard or “L” long wheelbase configurations, with the latter offering storage to spare, even with the third-row seats up. And the twin-turbo 4.4-liter V6 ensures brisk acceleration around town or on an off-ramp.

All Navigators use a twin-turbo 4.4-liter V6 that’s similar to the one found in the Ford F-150 Raptor. It’s good for 440 hp and 510 lb-ft of torque. A silky 10-speed auto handles gear changes, and full-time four-wheel drive ensures all conditions traction.

From there, specific trims branch off, with increasing levels of luxury and tech.

The 2024 Navigator is available in the following trims (prices not including destination):

• Premiere: $82,765

• Reserve: $95,325

• Reserve L: $98,350

• Black Label: $110,750

• Black Label L: $113,795

The Black Label L takes the Navigator’s luxury SUV formula to the max. Let’s go over the details.

Exterior-wise, the top-trim Lincoln Navigator uses subtle add-ons for low-key style. A Black Label signature grille with an illuminated Lincoln star adds upscale panache. A panoramic vista roof bathes the interior with light. And 22-inch bright-machined aluminum wheels bring sleek curb appeal.

Inside, the Black Label L features abundant passenger space and storage capacity, thanks to third-row seating and an extended wheelbase. “Perfect Position” 30-way front seats let occupants dial in their preferred settings. Leather upholstery is supple and supportive.

A 13.2-inch LCD capacitive touchscreen runs the Sync 4 infotainment interface, including a connected built-in navigation system (with one year of complimentary service). And for music aficionados, there’s a 28-speaker Revel Ultima 3D audio system, for incredible sound quality.

Navigator Black L buyers get to choose from four interior themes. Those include Chalet, Yacht Club, Invitation, and Central Park.

Chalet uses shades like Alpine, Espresso, and Silverwood Recon. Yacht Club has colors like White Washed Teak, Blue Bay, and Coastal Blue. Invitation has a dark ambiance, with Black Onyx, Ebony, and Khaya with Laser Branch. Lastly, Central Park has earthy tones like Urban Green, Light Flint, and Walnut with Laser Etch.

2024 Lincoln Navigator and Navigator Black Label L: what the reviews say

Overall, the 2024 Lincoln Navigator and top-of-the-line Navigator Black Label L received positive reviews. But they aren’t perfect. Here’s what reviewers had to say.

Car and Driver rated the Navigator 8 out of 10, lauding its comfortable ride and luxurious interior. They also liked the Black Label model’s four years of complimentary routine maintenance. However, they found handling ponderous and fuel efficiency on the low side (16/22 MPG city/highway).

The Car Connection agreed, noting the Navigator’s “decadent seats”, standard adaptive suspension, and “sublime comfort”. But detracting from the SUV’s score was its gas mileage and hefty price tag.

2024 Lincoln Navigator: how the competition compares

How does the Lincoln Navigator stack up against other upscale luxury SUVs? Let’s take a look.

Compared to the Navigator, the BMW X7 (from $81,900 plus destination) takes a different approach. Its unibody construction ensures composed handling and everyday agility. High-tech turbo engines make up to 630 hp (Alpina XB7), for sports car fun on daily drives. The interior features high-tech digital gauges, and a large touchscreen running the iDrive interface.

The Cadillac Escalade (from $80,795 plus destination), like the Lincoln, has truck-like underpinnings and a luxury car interior. Its singular style stands out on the road, and an optional diesel engine gets up to 27 MPG highway.

Meanwhile, Jeep offers the Wagoneer (from $61,595 plus destination) and the luxurious Grand Wagoneer (from $91,140 plus destination). Compared to the Navigator, the Jeeps have a more utilitarian, subtle style, along with solid off-road chops (when equipped with 4WD). They also include comfortable interiors with leather upholstery and premium audio systems.

The Infiniti QX80 (from $74,150 plus destination) is another body-on-frame SUV with upscale style and a posh interior. A 5.6-liter V8 provides 400 hp and the suspension offers a pleasant ride. The interior features high-end materials and third-row seating.

So, is the 2024 Lincoln Navigator Black Label L worth more than 110k? If it were our money, no. Instead of being a thoroughly modern SUV, it’s a truck-like design, with fancy exterior highlights and a luxurious interior.

While the engine is a high point, it still can’t justify such a high MSRP. If it were us, we’d go with the BMW X7. The German company is known for building driving machines, and the X7 brings car-like dynamics to an SUV. And it’s worth the price.
