Lots of people daily drive supercars, muscle cars, classic cars, and other woefully impractical machines. However, most of those vehicles don’t produce over 800 horsepower. Yes, you can daily drive a 2018 Dodge Demon. Although the limited-release car was intended more as an over-the-top drag strip weapon that you can drive home, it does have daily driver qualities. For instance, the Demon has airbags, air conditioning, power windows, power locks, an infotainment system, and comfortable seats. Still, Dodge offered the Demon with just the driver’s seat installed to save weight but offered to reinstall the other three seats for just $1. 

However, the Demon is a much less practical daily driver than a Challenger R/T Scat Pack or even an SRT Hellcat. With the crash diet that Dodge put it on, the muscle car goes without the sound-deadening, audio, and big brakes that the other V8-powered Challengers have. Also, with resale values at well over $100,000, the Demon will likely cost you over twice as much as another V8-powered option. 

How much fuel does a Challenger Demon use?

The Dodge Demon is a thirsty car, to the tune of an Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) estimated ten mpg in the city. It doesn’t get much better at highway speeds, either. The Demon will cover only 18 miles per gallon on the highway, making its combined fuel economy 13 mpg. 

In comparison, Car and Driver says that a 2022 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat has a combined fuel economy figure of 16 mpg. Also, to hit the Demon’s claimed 840 horsepower, you’ll need to feed the mighty Dodge 100-octane-plus race fuel. 

Is the Dodge Demon safe?

Although the Dodge Demon sacrifices a lot for outright speed, it doesn’t compromise safety as much as you might expect. It is built on the Challenger platform, of which the latest Hellcats received five-star ratings from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). However, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety gave the Challenger lower scores in roof strength, so try to keep your Dodge upright. 

Is the Dodge Demon a good investment?

The car is an impressive investment if you are one of the 3,300 orders that secured a Demon for Dodge’s original pricing. Dodge originally sold its halo car for a starting price of $86,090 ($86,091 since you weren’t silly enough to buy it without the $1 crate). Today, Kelley Blue Book (KBB) shows a typical list price for a 20,000-mile example at $142,976. 

What should you daily drive instead of a Demon?

As the characters in the Jurassic Park franchise mentioned, it isn’t a question of “can we,” it’s more “should we.” You shouldn’t daily drive a Dodge Demon. Dodge only produced 3,300 of them, and the car is quite simply too special to ferry commuters through stop-and-go traffic. If you choose to, be our guest.
