Is a Kia Stinger Faster Than a Ford Mustang?
The Kia Stinger presents an affordable performance car for consumers who don’t want to spend Audi S4 money. It is a six-cylinder sports sedan with seating with five and optional all-wheel drive. However, how does it compare to a thoroughbred pony car with a 5.0L V8 engine? Is the Kia Stinger faster than a Ford Mustang GT?
How fast is Kia Stinger?
The Kia Stinger is a quick sports sedan. According to Car and Driver, the Stinger GT2 AWD will hit sixty in just 4.6 seconds. That is seriously quick, especially by sedan standards. Of course, only the 368-horsepower twin-turbo 3.3L V6 variant will accelerate that quickly.
You can buy a more affordable 300-horsepower 2.5L four-cylinder model, but it will not thrill in quite the same capacity as its bigger brother. Still, the range of Stingers offers AWD for added composure and grip. However, you won’t be keeping up with a Ford Mustang GT in the four-cylinder GT-Line.
Is Kia Stinger expensive?
The Kia Stinger has a starting price of $37,735 for the GT-Line. That buys you a 2.5L four-cylinder rear-wheel drive (RWD) Stinger. While the GT-Line is down on power compared to its V6-powered sibling, it makes up for its fuel economy. According to TrueCar, the Stinger GT-Line will manage 22 mpg in the city and 32 mpg at highway speeds.
Unsurprisingly, prices rise with the twin-turbo V6 GT2. The GT2 has a starting price of $52,935. That puts it squarely ahead of a Ford Mustang GT by over $10,000. The V8-powered Mustang has a starting price of $39,440. However, the GT2 is a four-door sedan with usable space for a family.
Is a Kia Stinger faster than a Mustang?
The Kia Stinger is not faster than a Ford Mustang GT. According to Car and Driver, a 2018 Ford Mustang GT could hit 3.8 seconds and a 12.1 quarter-mile run, making it quite a bit faster than the Kia sedan. While the range-topping GT2 AWD is quick, it isn’t quick enough to keep up with a late-model Ford Mustang GT. Even the lowest trim Mustang, the EcoBoost, produces 310 horsepower from its turbocharged four-cylinder engine.
However, the Stinger is a sedan with doors and seating for guests, unlike the Mustang’s pitiful back seat. Also, the Mustang has a much smaller trunk than rivals like the Dodge Challenger. So while the Mustang is quicker, it’s certainly not as practical.
Should you buy a Mustang instead?
If you want the faster of the two cars, buy a Ford Mustang GT. It is faster, more affordable, and stylish than the Kia Stinger. However, the Kia Stinger is a challenging benchmark to beat if you want super sedan practicality. Also, its twin-turbocharged V6 engine makes a delightful noise, if not as baritone as the Mustang’s soundtrack.
Still, you might consider a preowned or lower trim option from a premium competitor like Audi or BMW. Scroll down to the following article to read more about fast cars!
