Is the Ford F-150 a Cop Car?
There’s really no getting around just how popular the Ford F-150 is. Year after year, it seems like this pickup truck is one of the best-selling vehicles in the United States, and it doesn’t look like there’s any sign of sales slowing. Now, the F-150 is getting even more versatile thanks to the folks at Steeda. The company has introduced something it calls the Steeda Special Service F-150.
What is an F-150 police responder?
An F-150 Police Responder is a truck designed to be used by law enforcement professionals. It is basically a Ford F-150 that has been modified by the Blue Oval to make it better for things like pursuits. The top speed is increased to 120 mph, and as a truck, it is suited for things like off-road use.
Steeda is taking things to the next level with its own modified F-150. The truck starts out as an XL SuperCrew with two-wheel drive. But don’t think this is some kind of basic pickup, the Steeda Special Service F-150 brings a lot to the table.
This Ford F-150 is ready for law enforcement use
Steeda has long made specialty parts for the Ford brand. In fact, I have a Steeda rear sway bar installed on my Ford Focus. But in this case, we’re talking about a full-size truck that can come with an array of upgrades thanks to the company.
Steeda offers this truck with a leveled, lowered, or a lifted suspension. And depending on an agency’s needs, the Steeda Special Service F-150 also offers 4WD. The leveling kit comes from Fox, and the lowering kit is courtesy of Ford Performance.
Handling is also improved, which you would expect for a vehicle that might be used to chase bad guys. There’s an adjustable rear sway bar and a performance alignment. Another perk comes from the engine.
Each version of this police truck comes with the twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter V6 EcoBoost engine. It is mated to the 10R80 10-speed automatic transmission. Despite the powertrain already being fairly potent, Steeda opted to add even more power.
Folks can opt for an 87 or 93-octane calibration, plus the Steeda Special Service gets a larger intercooler and cold air intake.
Does Ford make police trucks?
Although there’s already the F-150 Police Responder, the Steed Special Service F-150 adds another option for law enforcement agencies. These organizations are likely to appreciate the fact that Steed provides limited lifetime warranty coverage for the components it adds.
So, clearly, the company does have confidence in what it is doing with the Ford F-150.
Now, you might be wondering if you can get these modifications for your personal truck. According to CarBuzz, Steeda has not made any specifics regarding private use. But if the brand does offer this option to the general public, you’ll want to make sure you don’t do anything that could seem like impersonating a law enforcement officer. Doing so will definitely land you in hot water.
