The Toyota Prius has a reputation for eco-friendly hybrid market disruption nearly on the scale of the iPod. However, the Prius isn’t the only reputable name in hybrid vehicles anymore. Moreover, Toyota has many options to compete with its Prius model, like the Toyota Camry Hybrid. So, in iSeeCars’ study covering the best cars for the money, does the Toyota Prius or the Camry Hybrid provide the best value in a Toyota hybrid?  

How much is a 10-year-old Toyota Prius worth?

A 10-year-old Toyota Prius has an average used car price of around $13,878. That price is on par with the industry average of $13,639  for iSeeCars’ best hybrid cars for the money. 

According to iSeeCars’ best cars for the money list, the Toyota Prius has an average price per 1,000 miles of about $107. That puts the Prius in second place on the overall list, regardless of make or type. The only vehicle that promises a lower price per 1,000 miles of ownership is a 10-year-old Chevrolet Impala sedan. Still, the Prius tops the hybrid segment by a commanding margin, outperforming the average hybrid in nearly every category, from price to lifespan. 

Is the Camry Hybrid a good value compared to the Toyota Prius?

The Toyota Camry Hybrid isn’t as good of a value as the Toyota Prius. A 10-year-old Camry Hybrid underperforms compared to a like-aged Prius in average used price and price per 1,000 miles of ownership. 

Specifically, the 10-year-old Camry model has an average used car price of around $14,360. That’s less than a $500 difference between the two Toyota models, but it’s still enough to differentiate the hybrids. Moreover, the Camry Hybrid has an average price per 1,000 miles of about $123, or $16 more than the Prius. Still, when weighing used car options, the differences add up. For instance, if you drive each car for 100,000 miles from the same starting point, the Camry will cost you an additional $1,600.  

What is the lifespan of a Prius?

A 10-year-old Toyota Prius has a potential lifespan of around 250,601 miles. However, a used Prius could go between 250,000 and 300,000 miles with proper care and maintenance. 

Moreover, the Prius’ lifespan is a testament to how long the model can last compared to other used cars on the market. For instance, the Prius not only lasts longer than any other vehicle in the 10-year-old hybrid segment, but the Prius also has a longer average potential lifespan than any other car on iSeeCars’ best cars for the money list. 

How long will a Camry Hybrid last?

The Camry Hybrid has an average lifespan of around 230,547 miles. While that puts it behind the Prius, the Camry model promises a longer average lifespan than most other 10-year-old hybrid models.  

Of course, the Camry Hybrid is a proper sedan, and the Prius is a hatchback. Aside from architecture, the Camry model has a 245V nickel-metal battery, while the Prius has a 202V unit with the same material. Moreover, the Prius gets better average fuel economy. The Prius is tough to beat if you want a Toyota hybrid for value, lifespan, or fuel economy.
